- Wake Up Early
Wake up before the sun rises to avoid crowds and you will also have the best attractions all to yourself. With soft diffused light, this is an excellent time for taking photos. Interaction with people is easier in the mornings as everyone will be in a good mood. Sketchy areas are relatively safe in the mornings as well. Hard working and honest people are the ones that wake up early. Con artists, scammers, and criminals sleep through the morning.
- Patience Is Essential
Don’t get worked up over the things that you can’t control. Life is very short to be annoyed and angry. Don’t worry if you missed your bus; there will always be another. Now and then screw-ups happen regardless of how careful you are. Just learn to accept them and keep going forward. If you find yourself trapped in such a situation, take a deep breath and think of a worse outcome and be happy.
- Laugh at yourself
You will always make a fool of yourself now and then when you travel. Laugh at yourself at that instance instead of getting embarrassed. Never be afraid of screwing up and don’t take life too seriously. Those who follow these two things are the happiest and learn the most.
- Stash Extra Cash
Money puts food on the table. It gives you the liberty to do things that other people without it can’t do. Stash at least a couple of hundred dollars worth of cash in multiple places to be safe in case of an emergency. You will thank us if lose your wallet, card stops working or if a place does not accept cards and no ATM’s nearby.
Some good stash spots are under the shoe inserts, socks, around the frame of the bag, toiletry bag or you can even stitch in on the back part of your backpack.
- Meet Local People
When you are traveling to new places, spend time speaking to the locals as well. Everyone in the world can manage to speak basic English, so it’s not impossible to strike a conversation, especially when you combined this with body language and hand gestures.
You will learn a lot from the most basic conversations as well. As we all are social beings, conversations with people can enrich your travels way more than just sights.
- Take Lots Of Photos
You may get just one chance to see and meet the people you come across on your travels. To immortalize these acquaintances and your memories, click as many pictures as possible. Don’t care about looking like a tourist. Just do your thing with the camera, as photos are the best souvenirs you can take home. With that being said don’t always be behind the lens. Live the moment as well.
- Get Lost On Purpose
Explore a location like a local to experience the essence of the place. Take all the wrong turns, get lost and find your way back. By Doing this on foot, you can learn a lot more than traveling with a guide. To be on the safer side, write down the name of your hotel and keep it with yourself. You will always have the option to catch a taxi and get back.
You don’t need to worry about dangerous neighborhoods as locals will point you in the right direction but always be cautious and alert.
