Spring Cleaning: Keep It, Recycle It, Or Throw It Away?

May 4, 2016 by Pam Maynard

Spring Cleaning

Spring provides a wonderful opportunity to initiate constructive changes to natural living environments. During this lovely season, Nature presents a nurturing new image: baby birds hatch from eggs and many young animals venture out for the first time, plants sprout and blossom, and cold winter terrains transform into warm, vital landscapes. Springtime reinvigorates many people, infusing humans with a sense of renewed vitality and purpose.

Spring Cleaning Keep It, Recycle It, Or Throw It Away

Small wonder, then, that so many households engage in traditional “spring cleaning” rituals during this awesome time of the year. Thoroughly cleaning and refurbishing every room in the home cultivates renewed optimism. Cleaning away dust and grime instills enthusiasm for the months ahead. Yet if, as a green living person, you choose to join the Spring Cleaning Movement, you will inevitably face a recurring issue during your household renewal process: keep it, recycle it, or throw it away?

Keep It

Many cleaning experts recommend retaining items that holds value to a member of your household. Even a child’s grubby teddy bear or a tattered blanket can retain important emotional connotations of love and security. Don’t toss items that other people value! Keep them in a secure place. If you don’t want all of these precious items in your home it may be a good idea to rent out a self-storage unit. There are lots of great storage facilities out there such as The Storage Center in Louisiana that can help you properly store your belongings. You’ll reap the satisfaction of knowing that your Spring Cleaning efforts inspired happy emotions in others.

Recycle It

Many ordinary products in a home contribute value to others during recycling. For example, today items such as paper, glass and even metal, all lend themselves to new uses. By carefully sorting household trash and transporting some items to a recycling center, you’ll gain the satisfaction of knowing that you used resources wisely. You really want to make sure that when you clean you are as green as possible. That can really help not only your home, but the environment.

Selling unwanted items in a home also contributes value. You may want to consider placing potential recyclables in a self-storage unit temporarily. Sort through these items and then sell unwanted possessions that other people want to purchase.

Throw It Away

Of course, you may want to discard some consumer items. During any spring cleaning, most people discover belongings worthy of the landfill.

Tossing worn goods can produce immense personal satisfaction. This process symbolizes change.

A Spring Cleaning Summary

By approaching spring cleaning as a natural process, you can overcome any ingrained personal reservations about the best way to address the “keep it, recycle it, or throw it away” issue. Use your best judgment. You’ll gain the satisfaction of knowing that your efforts enhanced personal living space for yourself and others. Best of all, you’ll witness the fruits of cleaning efforts during the coming year!
