Now with Science X: learning, science, and fun collide in this neat smartscope. Kids can explore their world around them using their favorite things-tablets and smart phones.
With the Science X- Smartscope, by Ravensburger USA, children can look at the microscopic world around them. They can magnify their discoveries such as water, insects, leaves, sand, feathers, and more. There is a nice full color poster with objects to study, and a manual included that has fun facts about the objects. This Smartscope comes with a removable light source, and a sliding object tray with two different levels of magnification. Scoping out the minute detail of objects is easy and fast with this scope.
When we received this Smartscope, it had to be assembled. It had instructions that were easy enough to follow. I put it together to make sure no pieces were lost. I am sure my sons age 12, and 14 could have assembled it too. Once together it is so simple to use. It came with all the needed supplies. We have a pipette to use with liquids, and petri dish with a lid for looking a live critters, and a slide with 6 covers. It even has a drawstring bag to pack it all in when you want to take it with you.
It is battery operated, so this Smartscope can go out into the field, unlike the traditional microscope. You can look at objects anywhere you go. Since it uses a smartphone or tablet which we never seem to be without it is an easy accessory on field trips or going to the park. Imagine the fun things you could look at near a lake or ocean.
My children had a lot of fun with it right away. They looked at water right away. Then caught some ants and put them in the petri dish. The ants were all over the place so it was hard to see them long. The manual suggests some sugar water or honey to keep them still while they drink. Next time we will surely try that. My daughter tried her hardest to catch a moth, and finally found a dead one. That was neat for her to see under the Smartscope. They also looked at leaves and crystal shards.
It is fun to discover how things look magnified. Great tool for making science fun and interactive for children to discover.
