Six Spring Cleaning Steps: Car Edition

March 26, 2016 by Pam Maynard

The winter weather has probably taken a toll on your car, and as you get started soaping up for a long spring cleaning list in your house, don’t neglect your vehicle. There are a number of things you will need to do to get a perfectly pristine car again. Below is a list of helpful cleaning tips to consider.

Six Spring Cleaning Steps Car Edition
Organize
It is easy to accumulate a lot of unnecessary things in the backseat during winter months. Use the first half of your cleaning to throw away trash, remove unnecessary items, and go through side pockets and glove boxes. Don’t forget to look in the trunk and clear out salt, blankets, chains another other items you only needed during colder seasons.

Clean The Carpet and Seats

If it has been a long time since you have vacuumed out your car, then now is a great time to do so. Vacuuming will remove dry dirt, mud, and debris that accumulated over the winter. You will also need to wipe down your seats using a damp towel. If you have leather upholstery, you can sanitize with a wipe, and for fabric, use baking soda and hot water to remove stains and odors.

Wash The Underbody
The outside of your car will also need a good cleaning. Winter weather can cause sand, salt, and grime to accumulate along the bottom of your car and can cause corrosion. Clean the underbody by spraying it with a simple garden hose. You can also get a power wash at your local car wash to help remove stubborn debris.

Clean The Windows and Mirrors
Your windows likely need a little extra attention as well. Use a window cleaner to clean the outside and the inside and a dry towel to shine them. You will also need to clean the mirrors including review and makeup mirrors overhead.

Replace Windshield Wipers
If your wipers took a beating in the snow, rain, and ice last season, you might need to replace them. You need windshield wipers that are working properly in order to prepare for spring showers, and don’t forget to top off on washer fluid as well.

Wax
Waxing your car can help protect it from the harsh effects of the sun, bugs, and road debris. The best kind of wax to use is a liquid wax or spray wax. Do not apply wax in direct sunlight. If you don’t want to do this tricky step yourself, see if a local Arnold Motor Supply store can recommend a refinishing solution.

Spring cleaning your car will prepare it for the next season of driving. Use these cleaning tips, and your own methods to completely clear out, organize and prep your vehicle.
