I love to read, and I go through many books each week.  I love to see my children interested in books as well.  They are a great use of time because they engage their imagination and strengthen their reading comprehension and fluency.  They can expand their vocabulary, and learn vital things if they read good books.

I have noticed that not all books are created equal.  The other week my son picked up a book, and there was bad language in it on the second page.  That is not what I want to fill his mind with.  The book was returned with a note to the library.  I am glad that certain books can be trusted.  Faithgirlz Glimmer Girls series by Natalie Grant is fantastic.

Glimmergirls

Glimmer Girls is a new series from Faithgirlz.  Faithgirlz has a variety of Bibles, fiction series, devotionals, and products that empower girls in their Christian faith.  The girls can grow, explore, and proclaim their faith at a critical time in their spiritual development.  Girls from age 9-12 will find Faithgirlz brand relevant and helpful.  Half of Americans who accept Jesus Christ as their savior do so before they turn 13, and half of those who accept Christ before their teens were lead by their parents.  Books from Faithgirlz are great resources for parents who are looking for reading material for their girls.

Natalie Grant has added her talent to Faithgirlz.  She has been nominated for a Grammy four times.  She is a top-selling Christian and Gospel artist who has been named Female Vocalist of the Year five times by The Gospel Music Association.  She also co-founded Hope for Justice International, an organization that helps rescue, restore, and identify victims of human trafficking.  Beyond all that she is a mother of three girls, and now an author of a great book series for girls just like hers.  The books actually mirror her own family to certain extents.

Glimmer Girls is about a family who has a mother who sings concerts, and a father who produces, and plays the piano.  The children are two ten year old twin girls named Maddie and Mia, and their younger sister Lulu.  They travel with their nanny and get into some fun mischief.

In Book 1, London Art Chase, Maddie witnesses an art theft while the family is in London for the first time.  She takes her sisters and her nanny on an adventure to solve the case.  Throughout the book Maddie is struggling with real problems girls have to deal with.  Where does she fit in?  What makes her special?

In Book 2, A Dolphin Wish, Mia has center stage as she leads the group on an adventure trying to discover how animals are escaping from their habitats at a park.  Her the family is on a trip to San Diego.

These coming of age issues will hit home for most young girls.  Also through out the book there is praying, and thanking God.  It is a great story with many needed references to Jesus.  He should be part of our daily lives, and is in this book.

The children were told to pray about many situations.  I loved the style the books were written in.  They were interesting enough to keep the attention of my nine year old daughter.  They also were a nice fast read for me.  In the book the mom and the nanny took the time to teach the girls about things they encountered.  These teaching moments are great to add real lessons in to fun fiction.  There are also plenty of feelings that are dealt with and life lessons in kindness and compassion.  All around a solid book for my daughter to read.  The topics are fun and the characters seem real and believable.  We hope a third Glimmer Girls book comes out with Lulu as the main character.
