#DIY Holiday Sweet Shoppe Playhouse #LittleTikes #MDRChristmas15

December 20, 2015 by Victoria

Disclosure.New.3

I’m so excited to share our sweet shoppe decorations with you because we had a BALL doing this with our Little Tikes Cape Cottage Playhouse™.   It is super cute, festive, and the kids adore what we did (cough…. and so do I!)

Before we began,  I tested a low heat hot glue gun on our house to help keep some of the decorations in place.  We were able to successfully use small dabs of glue without causing any damage to our playhouse.   After it completely dried we removed the glue *leaving no traces behind.  Please read disclaimer at the bottom of this post for more information.

We started at the top of the playhouse because it was important for us to get the roof looking “sweet” enough.  Our original plan didn’t work so we opted to use candy designed wrapping paper. We covered the entire roof with the wrapping paper using sturdy packaging tape to keep it in place.

After the roof was wrapped, I used a low heat glue gun to glue paper plate halves around the edges.  The glue was adhered to the wrapping paper and not the house.

To cover the edges of the home and the cut portions of paper plates, we added glitter ribbon as a finishing accent.  This ribbon is sturdy and did require the use of low heat hot glue to remain in place.  This same ribbon was added to the window openings in ringlets with a small dab of hot glue at the top and bottom of the opening.

Next to the window ringlets, I added strips of 2-3 inch green glitter ribbon on the corner accents. I secured these pieces in place with packaging tape to prevent damaging the Little Tikes graphics.

The final decorations I added to the Sweet Shoppe are a large bow (from the same green glitter ribbon used in the paragraph above), and candy lollipop ornaments.  These decorations were much heavier than the rest of the paper/ribbons used everywhere else so I secured them in place with the smallest Command hooks I could find.

My daughter couldn’t wait to play inside the Sweet Shoppe we created for her.  I think this is a whimsical way to decorate children’s outdoor toys for the holidays — making outside fun all year round!
