5 Reasons you Should Invest in Essential Oils for your Family

October 16, 2015 by Pam Maynard

Essential oils, such as those sold by Gary Young‘s Young Living Essential Oils can offer a wonderful, healthy change in the home. Some have been skeptical of the benefits of the oils. However, there are at least five reasons that essential oils should be invested in for a family.

5 Reasons you essential oils
Less Sickness

Certain essential oils like lemon and grapefruit have amazing health benefits. Many of the most common essential oils are high in antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal properties. Using them in times of sickness doesn’t completely prevent sickness, it can lessen the effects of the sickness. Using them to clean also helps when sickness is on the loose. Picking a scent that is liked by most of the people in the home and is in that list (others include lavender, tea tree (melaluca), and peppermint) can help keep the home smelling good and keeping the home clean.

Easy to Benefit From

Essential oils absorb into the skin incredibly well. Many of these oils can be put in a certain area of the body (such as lavender on the feet) for a specific effect (to help someone fall asleep). The reason they absorb so well is the molecular structure of the oils – very very tiny. Even better, they do not accumulate in the body. They’re incredibly easy for the body to dispense with when they have done their duty, and so they are safe to use often if that is what you need.

Long Lasting

The shelf life of essential oils is incredible. While most companies sell bottles of 15 milliliters or so, for essential oils, that’s a lot. Each 15 mL bottle has 250 drops – and all that is needed for effect is one or two – at most three – drops. Thinking about how long it could take to use up all 250 drops can be dizzying – but don’t worry. Many of the most common essential oils have a shelf life of at least five years, and some can last up to 10 years. Citrus oils (such as lemon and grapefruit) are the only exceptions to this rule since they only last a couple of years before the potency reduces.

Better Mood

There are mood benefits to using essential oils. For those who get really bad during their PMS, Clary sage is the recommended oil to use. To produce simply an overall more joyous mood, lavender, peppermint, chamomile, lemon, and ylang-ylang are all among the oils that are recommended for use. For a more positive mood, basil and grapefruit oils are among those that are recommended. To get a more creative mood going (this is especially helpful for those that need a creative mood for their jobs), try using rose, jasmine, or lemon oils.

Dilute!

While it was noted earlier that essential oils absorb easily through the skin, it should be noted that many should not be used directly on the skin without dilution. Of course, there are some that can be used without dilution, but it should be done sparingly. Lavender, tea tree, and rose geranium are among those that can be used sparingly without dilution. It’s important to use diluted oils on children, since they absorb much more through their skin than an adult would. If you use an essential oil blend that is mixed up at home on a child, use only half the recipe for the same reason. To dilute, use a carrier oil – such as coconut or almond oil.

Keeping these tips in mind can help make sure that the benefits are felt by everyone in the family.
