Homecoming night doesn’t have to be just a dance and a corsage. It’s a big day and night, so make it memorable with a unique date itinerary. Here are a few ideas for your teen planning their day for the upcoming Homecoming dance.
Dessert Tour
If your teen and date are going out to eat, find out which restaurants in town have the best dessert menu and plan to order a selection in advance. Nearly every high-end restaurant will customize a dessert tray with enough notice. If you’re willing to throw in a couple extra bucks, you might get the chef to wheel out a flambe cart. Order three or four dishes and surprise the date with personalized desserts. This is almost always a winner with first dates.
Points for the Winner!
Pick an odd number of activities like miniature golf, darts, ice skating or air hockey. Find one of those crane video games or crash a pizza restaurant that has skeeball. Put each one on a quick timer (20 minutes or less). Whoever wins each contest gets a point. The most points wins and gets to be treated to the next date or gets to pick the first dance at the night’s big event.
Salsa Lessons
Send the couple to a dance studio to learn three new dance steps before the big event. Knowing how to dance makes events like proms and homecoming dances much more fun and learning to dance together will make your couple much more impressive to their friends
Travel in Style
Rather than driving the family vehicle, spice up the mode of transportation with a limousine service for the night from places like Millanio Limo. Arriving to and leaving the dance in style will be an experience any teen will always remember. Have others in the group pitch in to help pay for the limo for the night to make it a more affordable option.
Comedy Shop or Jazz Show
Improv-style restaurants are cropping up everywhere. Many of them have all kinds of live entertainment from session bands to recording artists to top-billed comedians from around the world. Many improv restaurants are family-friendly and another unique idea for dinner before heading off to the dance.
The key to making a date night fun is including just enough adventure and just enough of the unexpected that it takes the place of the awkward silences. Before you know it, everyone is laughing and having a good time. Here’s hoping your teen’s homecoming is one that they will never forget.
