Raising a Generation: 5 Youth-Focused Careers to Consider

September 27, 2015 by Pam Maynard

Working with teenagers and young adults is very rewarding but also very challenging. Below introduces five youth-focused careers that will provide a stable career and the chance for you to give back to the community.

Career Counselor

One of the easiest ways to engage teenagers daily is to be a high school career counselor. These educational professionals offer to counsel, provide advice and help develop and meet goals.

Career counselors are critical resources for teenagers and help them make the right personal and educational decisions. Career counselors work with parents, teachers and other educational professionals to help teenagers prepare for and enter college.

Librarian

A youth librarian works in both school and public libraries. They assist teenagers with finding educational materials and preparing for college through various programs. Many youth librarians help manage tutoring and homework assistance programs.

Of course, librarians also inspire and encourage youth to appreciate and embrace learning through books and other sources. Children’s librarian applies their knowledge of child development to offer outreach services for children, such as story time and various learning activities.

At-Risk Advocate

Not all teens enjoy a safe and stable home environment. At-risk teenagers are those who will struggle with transitioning to adulthood due to the conditions of their personal life.

These include teens who are homeless, living in poverty, addicted to drugs and placed in foster care. At-risk advocates often work in alternative schools or non-profit organizations that offer services and programs to at-risk teens.

Youth Assistant

Youth assistants work in various settings, such as youth camps, fitness centers, community centers and even religious organizations. Their primary job is to plan and supervise safe and entertaining teen activities. These could include sports, physical games, arts and crafts and field trips. Youth assistants will most likely spend a lot of time driving and coordinating with parents and other caretakers.

One of the most rewarding jobs is the one of youth minister as it provides the opportunity to have a positive impact on the youth of today. Among youth minister’s job duties is providing guidance to youth in their communities, helping foster growth and development in the youth.

They organize youth events, run youth programs, provide spiritual guidance and share their faith, and more. Youth ministers have a great platform to help shape and define society’s future generations. Not only do they enhance lives through their work but they also bring communities closer together.

High School Teacher

Helping teens obtain a meaningful education is important for both their life and career success. High school teachers can make a positive impact on society and the future world by helping teens learn and grow to become better citizens.

High school teachers support, inspire and motivate teens to succeed in life. An education degree, like one from the UC master’s in online education programs, is one of the basic requirements to becoming a teacher. If you’re looking to become a teacher in the future, undergoing a CRB check could be very beneficial.

These are just a few of the many careers to consider in helping out the youth in your communities. If one of these careers interests you, plan a career path that will lead you to the desired position. Many will require a college degree or experience for each position.
