When I was a child I loved banners. I made them for every occasion I could using the continuous fed perforated computer paper (do you remember that paper?). I remember the perforation was always so sensitive, I had to tape the backside of the paper to keep it together while I drew on my letters and artwork.
Hanging it up was always the best part — that was when my banner went from artwork to something special.
Now that I am a mom, it is no surprise that I believe my children should have banners at their birthday. Just like when I was a child, they light up when they read their name and see that it is hanging — just for them — in their honor. It truly is a special treat to think that someone took such care into making a banner just for you. It makes you feel special. Every child deserves to feel special.
For my little ones’ birthday we made our own banners from Amy Adele online. The artwork in her collection is very child-like and appeals to children as much as my past handmade banners used to. I think it is because they look like amazing hand-drawn banners. When children first see an Amy Adele banner for the first time, they believe the banner was made just for them, by you, using your own crayons. After they learn that the banner isn’t your own creation, but that you had help, they are instantly amazed. (It doesn’t look printed!)
Our Amy Adele birthday banners arrived in individual cardboard cylinders, rolled (not folded), to prevent wrinkles and damage. Additionally, each banner is wrapped in plastic to avoid any contact with other ink that may damage the banner before it is placed in use.
Mom’s Thoughts:
We love the artwork and colors. I find the banners to be a little short (40×12″), but they do dress up nicely when you add other decorations at each end.
My children loved seeing their birthday banners and even requested they be returned to the original packaging to prevent damage since they want to use them again next year!
They were a big hit with the kids!
