No, it’s not a man cave or a man shed! It’s just for ME and it’s called a SHE SHED!
Yes, women need a place to go and just be. They don’t need to watch a 72 inch TV with speakers in every wall. They don’t need the biggest and best pool table. We just need a simple place to go and get away from it all. For some, hanging a hammock in the backyard shed and after adding a fresh coat of paint, is just perfect to spend an hour away from stress sources. Or maybe we just need a sunny greenhouse filled with calm- anything to get away from the chaos of daily life! No, it’s not a man cave!
Never heard of a she shed? It’s sort of like a man cave, but totally different because it’s for us ladies. The idea is simple. Take an old shed and transform it into an oasis of relaxation and rejuvenation—a place where women can leave stress and responsibility at the door, if only for a few hours. She sheds are a relatively new idea, so Best Buy decided to make one. Here’s how it went, along with six ways they incorporated tech into the mix.
Check out these six She Shed ideas for using technology to create the ultimate relaxation retreat HERE.
- Extend the Wi-Fi for endless entertainment
- Set the mood with your phone
- Turn ugly cables into art
- Bask in the sun (even when it rains)
- Grant access without a key
- Create a hidden refreshment station
I love the Cable Art idea for fun in MY She Shed!
When your She Shed gives you too many cables, make some cable art!
One of my pet peeves is cables, cords, wires all over the place. My son is the biggest cord clutter culprit! When I spend 20 minutes of my day getting his cord clump untangled, it gives me time to think about what kind of art project I could make with all these cables. I could tack them up on a blank canvas and make an abstract form. I could paint them all different colors- then, while the paint is still wet, I could slap them onto a white poster board and make a truly colorful work of art. I could wind the cables into a pot or vase, kind of like the kind of clay pots you made as a kid in school. What would YOU do to turn your cables in art?
We have so many cable and cords we could make a whole herd of Bison (or is that a Buffalo?). Here is how to get your abstract animal art project started:
Would you call your “She Shed” a Ma’am Cave, Lady Lair or Dame Domain? I think She Shed sounds a little boring. My favorite name is Dame Domain! Where would YOU put your Dame Domain and what would it look like? Would it have flowers and lace? Would it be a simple space with just a few items in place? Or would it be filled with books or other things that make you happy? The biggest thing to remember is to take time for YOU! Even if you can’t MAKE a She Shed, you can take 15 minutes out of your day for YOU- we all need time to refresh and rejuvenate. How can we give happiness to our family if we can’t give it to ourselves?
