Landscaping Secrets for your Front Yard

July 30, 2015 by Pam Maynard

There are so many sources of ideas for landscaping design that may leave one spoilt for choice. If you are planning a landscaping project, it is important to choose the right features that will accentuate your home and create working space as well. The following are landscape design secrets that you can use to plan your front yard landscaping projects.

backyard summer party zone #1

The walkway

The walkway is often a focal point for your front yard and most attention is given for whatever is around the walkway. You can dress up your walkway by lining it up with plants, rocks or garden lights and add a touch of creative design using gentle curves. You can choose interesting materials to pave the walkway such as bricks and flagstones. Incorporating steps will also be a great way to make the walkway more interesting.

Flowers

According to King Landscape Co, colorful blooms are a great way to brighten up your front yard. Flowers make your home look very welcoming. Even when working with limited space, bold hues can make a huge impact. Be careful not to plant on the parking strip if your municipality rules do not allow it, it is quite easy to get carried away when planting flowers, especially around fire hydrants as the plants may hide it.

Patio space

You can also include patio space in your front yard. You can introduce patio furniture and use this space for entertaining such as holding tea parties and brunch. In case you need some privacy, you can add a hedge or a skirt of flowers to make the patio area more intimate.

Work with the slopes

A plain grass turf on a small can be hard to maintain but you can add plants and landscaping features on the slope. Beautifying a slope makes the home appear grander. You can mix groundcover with flowers, perennials and rocks.

Buffer zone

You can also use plants to shield your home from street noises and create more privacy while still adding an element of design to your home. Medium sized pants and hedges can make your yard look larger while giving more textures and colors to admire. Make sure to look out the windows as you design because you will be stuck with the view after and you need to make sure you enjoy it as much as possible.

Containers

Containers also add more color to your garden; especially of you are not working with very bright colored plants. A few containers strategically placed throughout the yard can add an artistic feel to your landscape. You can use containers to line up your walkway, patio, and doors or around the house. Here is a tip for the containers, use a drip irrigation method to make it easier to water the plants.

Add a touch of drama

Bold elements that attract attention as statement pieces in your landscape can add the drama you need. Just make sure tour house fits well with the call to attention you build around it.
