How To Clean a Rain Gutter #DIY

July 23, 2015 by Pam Maynard

You must clean your rain gutters at least once a year. This prevents debris like leaves and dirt from clogging up your gutter, potentially damaging the gutter system or even your house or landscaping.  A regular gutter repairs perth – Here’s how to quickly fix a clogged gutter.

If the clog is at the downspout cage (a wire strainer that traps debris and allows water to flow through):

1. Remove the downspout cage and clean it.
2. Remove the debris that has accumulated in the gutter.
3. If the cage is undamaged, firmly push it back into its hole. If it’s damaged or missing, you can buy a new one inexpensively at any home improvement store.

If the clog is caused by loose hangers or spikes:

1. Remove debris from clogs.
2. Repair or correctly reposition the gutter supports.

If the clog is at the elbow or seam of the spout, and it’s reachable from above:

1. Use a pressure washer, stick, or plumbing snake to try and free the debris from the spout.
2. If you can’t reach the clog, just disassemble the spout, remove the clog, and reassemble it.

If the clog is below ground:

1. Remove the spout where it enters the ground. Try to remove the clog using a plumbing snake or pressure washer.
2. If you cannot remove the clog, you may need the assistance of a professional.

Keep your rain gutters clear to keep them working throughout the year. You’ll be glad you did.
