Yes, we are still loving our Comfortaire adjustable air bed! I have been waking up feeling refreshed every day!
This week, I want to talk about the amount of sleep you are getting. I already know how important the quality of your sleep is, but the quantity of sleep is important too. If you aren’t getting enough sleep, I have some great tips to improve your sleep.
Of course, I’m sure you have noticed cats and dogs never have trouble getting enough sleep! One reason is that they have no stresses to worry over. They don’t get insomnia. They depend on us to take care of their needs. But how do we adopt that no stress sleep attitude that pets have?
An average adult needs between 7.5 and 8 hours of sleep per night. “But many people can function with 6 hours’ sleep, and there also some who need 9 hours or more,” says Sudhansu Chokroverty, MD, professor and co-chair of neurology and program director for clinical neurophysiology and sleep medicine at the New Jersey Neuroscience Institute at JFK Medical Center in Edison, N.J.
“The amount of sleep needed to function the next day varies from individual to individual, and is determined genetically and hereditarily,” says Chokoroverty, who is also a neuroscience professor at Seton Hall University’s School of Health and Medical Sciences.
How much sleep do you get at night? Personally, when I have to work, I get 6 hours or less. On the weekend, I tend to get 8 hours of sleep. Which days do I feel better? The weekend days of course. My body needs more than 6 hours of sleep. During the week, sometimes I have to take a nap to make up for the lack of sleep at night.

So how can you improve your sleep and get enough hours in? Try adopting these tips:
- Set a sleep schedule to follow, even on the weekends. Go to bed early enough so you can get the required amount of sleep. For me, I would go to bed at 9p every night so I could get in my 8 hours of sleep.
- Make your bedroom a relaxing place. Play relaxing music, use dim lighting and maybe read a book at bedtime. Many people recommend not to watch TV in your bedroom.
- Exercise regularly. It not only increases your endorphins that make you feel better during the day, but it also makes you sleep better at night.
What do you do to get enough sleep at night??
