Nursery Designs: Making Room for Baby

December 8, 2014 by Pam Maynard

Anyone expecting a new baby needs to upgrade their home to have a nursery that is large enough to hold the essential items you’ll need each day. The best time to get organized is before the baby arrives since parents will definitely not have time afterwards. Of course, a parent also wants to create a beautiful environment with unique décor such as paint, draperies and floor coverings. Consider these nursery designs for your newest family member.

One: Combine Rooms to Create a Larger Space
If a home was built with many small rooms, then think of a way to combine spaces by creating entranceways or by hiring a Peterborough custom home builder to knock down walls. This will give you the space you’ll want for when that nursery turns into a playroom. Use one area for the baby’s crib or bassinet, along with a dressing table. The adjoining room is then used exclusively for feeding an infant late at night until the child is old enough to need a playroom.

Two: Use Available Space Wisely

Parents forced to use a small nook for an infant must consider placing shelves or cabinets on the walls. Adding built-in storage is the best way to use every inch of space available while ensuring devices are attached firmly to walls to prevent injuries. Select furniture that has multiple functions such as a crib with drawers underneath to hold blankets and clothing.

Three: Renovate an Older Home Before Baby Comes Home
If a home is outdated, then hiring an expert to plan major renovations in Peterborough for before the birth of an infant is a great plan. In many cases, a contractor can build a new customized home in less than a year. Either one of these options is an excellent way to have a nursery that is perfect for caring for a baby.

Four: Hire a Professional Nursery Organizer
Hiring a professional organizer to assist with arranging nursery furniture and accessories can make life simpler after a baby arrives. The proper arrangement of items in a nursery makes daily tasks more efficient and easier to manage during cleanup time. Organizers know how to find attractive storage containers and systems that will work for several years as a child grows.

Decorating a nursery is a lot of fun for new parents who want to use favorite colors or themes. Select carpets, draperies, and paint color that are suitable for several years since these items are more expensive. Accessories such as lamps, wall hangings and crib linens are easier to replace when parents want to have a new décor in a nursery.
