As a homeschooling family with three little ones under the age of five, I am always looking for easy ways to incorporate educational opportunities into our lives. From the television shows we stream, to the food we eat, I do all that I can to make everything a learning experience. One of our latest tools comes from Post Cereals. Their Alpha-Bits Cereal has my daughter’s favorite PBS Kids characters on the box – Super Why! This makes it easy to find in our local Walmart and an exciting treat for her to hold while we shop. (She loves to hold and look at the box – keeps her well entertained in the store – bonus!)
Educational Breakfast Moments
I want my littlest bunch to start recognizing their letters – to really take notice of them. The best way for this to happen is to help them look for letters everywhere! Having a letter of the week really helps my little ones take notice of each special letter. We place their “Letter of the Week” artwork on our refrigerator – right where they will see it each morning during breakfast. While they are eating their Alpha-Bits cereal, I ask them if they can find their letter. I love the sound each child makes when they find that letter – it makes my morning!
This week we moved beyond the usual breakfast and brought our Alpha-Bits into the rest of our day as a snack. You could say our Thanksgiving Alpha-Bits Bark was a BIG hit during our evening dessert!
Alpha-Bits Bark Recipe
Ingredients:
- 12 oz Alpha Bits Cereal
- 24 oz White Melting Chocolate
- 1 tbsp Shortening (optional)
- 1 Cup Bite-Sized Holiday Colored Candy
The bark couldn’t be simpler to make. Follow the package directions on your favorite white melting chocolate. (I thin mine slightly with a tablespoon of vegetable shortening stirred into the melted chocolate.) Once your chocolate is melted, pour it over your Alpha-Bits and holiday colored candies. Stir your cereal and candy until it is well coated and pour it out onto wax paper to set. Once the white chocolate is firm, break the bark into pieces and serve inside snack bags.

Our Alpha-Bits Bark makes a great snack for little ones on Thanksgiving. Place a handful in each treat bag and staple on the FREE PRINTABLE treat bag toppers included with this recipe!
