I have to admit- I am a nerd! I have always loved Math and yes, I was even a “Mathlete” in high school. My son used to say he didn’t like math, now it is one of his favorite subjects. I’m not sure if it’s was his 6th grade teacher, or the fact that he finds it easy. We recently started using the GO Math! Academy program online. You may recognize the name, as GO Math! is a series of curriculum from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. You likely have one (or more) of their textbooks or workbooks floating around your home right now!
Go Math! Academy is an online, at-home learning program that offers thousands of math practice problems, hundreds or help videos, and plenty of games and rewards to make learning fun! The lively, engaging online experience lets children select a theme to launch their own personal math journey. (Does your little one prefer the sea or space?) This independent learning empowers children to complete the grade-level curriculum in order to select the skill they want to practice.
Go Math! Academy offers an easy to navigate dashboard for parents to view child progress. Each subject/learning topic is clearly shown so you can have an “at a glance” view of how your child(ren) are doing. While in the parent dashboard you can also see math awards earned and manage child profiles.
Children also have a clever dashboard to see their progress and move around the program. I have to admit, the children’s dashboard is much cooler than the parent dashboard (not fair)!
Thoughts from Mom Does Reviews:
The Go Math! Academy program is actually pretty easy for Justin. Well, he likes to think so anyway. I think it just does such a great job at being easy to follow that he just “thinks” he is too big for it. We have actually used it quite a bit during our first few weeks back at school – a/k/a the refresher period. The videos are amazingly easy to understand and they simplify Math in a way I haven’t seen in other at-home programs/online subscriptions. We enjoyed it so much that I thought Victoria and her children would enjoy it too. I had her take a look so she could tell us what her younger children thought. This is what she said:
My bunch and I had the opportunity to take a look at Pam’s subscription of Go Math! Academy, an online math education supplement, to see what the little ones thought of it. Immediately after I pulled it up and and selected a grade level, a cartoon instruction began – two little ones ran right over!
Since they enjoyed the instruction video so much, I turned on the Math on the Spot videos (Kindergarten). My two and four year old little ones really liked the videos and sat still watching them for almost an half-hour! The videos feature adults paired with puppets that are like the “children” of the show. My guys really enjoyed the puppets and found each video entertaining.
Out of curiosity, I looked into the videos further and discovered that somewhere in the middle of second grade the videos go from “Math on the Spot” to “Math on the Spot with Professor Burger”. Professor Burger is also entertaining to children and makes each match problem “real” and easy for them to follow. He simplifies even the most difficult Math problems making tough lessons easier to follow.
The real hit for our family was the videos. We would love to see these expanded into a DVD series.
Affordable!!!
I don’t usually comment on the pricing of products we review here at Mom Does Reviews, but I have to tell you that you can get Go Math! Academy in your choice of three payment plans – with access for up to 5 children – for as low as $6.67 a month! (Amazing!)
Monthly: $9.99/month
6-months: $49.99 ($8.33/month) – a 17% savings
1-year: $79.99 ($6.67/month) – a 33% savings
Go Math! Academy is a great supplement to your child’s learning. It takes the teaching style they use in the classroom and brings it home for even more reinforcement. I don’t believe there is a better online program available for elementary children. The fact that they have made it affordable too, is amazing!
