Stains, Dust, and Dirt! 5 Ways to Keep Your House Clean this Summer

August 4, 2014 by Pam Maynard

Summer is here, which means more time spent outdoors to enjoy the warm weather. Household chores will stack up quickly without routine and diligence. The tips below can help to avoid housecleaning overload.

Stay on a Schedule
Families often get caught up in many activities during the summer, so it is easy to get behind on household duties. The best way to avoid a big scrub job is to create a daily schedule of cleaning that allows for upkeep without a large time investment. This is especially important for dishes and laundry, two jobs that can pile up very fast. Each area of the house can receive attention on certain days.

Sweep or Vacuum Daily
People go in and out of a house many times per day in the summer, tracking in grass, dirt and sand. Using a dust mop, broom or vacuum each day in the heavy traffic areas can make a home seem much cleaner, even if there is little time to do anything else. This job should come at the end of the day, so every morning is a fresh start.

Use Window Screens
Open windows allow a flow of fresh air on hot days as well as natural coolness at night. Unfortunately, this also introduces dust, dander and insects to the interior of the house. Using window screens will provide proper air circulation, while cutting down on dirt and other nuisances. Adding air purifiers will aid in removing pollen for allergy sufferers.

Remove Shoes
There is a sense of freedom in going barefoot, and this should be a house rule in the summertime. Leaving shoes outside will reduce the chance of the outdoors coming in and adding to cleaning time. A no-shoe policy also keeps carpets cleaner all year round.

Hire a Cleaning Service
For those who want to enjoy every minute of summer, it can pay off to hire a cleaning service like Grimebusters Ltd. While this solution will not eliminate light daily cleaning requirements, it will free a family from having to do the heavier jobs, like scrubbing the bathrooms or mopping the floors. Many services are reasonably priced and can be tailored to a family’s needs.

Summer days should be for fun, not stuck inside cleaning the house. Following the tips above will aid families in finding a balance between chores and enjoying the glorious weather.  It shouldn’t be an all day even to keep your house clean.
