Auntie Anne’s and Alex’s Lemonade Stand want you to meet Victoria Hernandez. Victoria is a Mini but Mighty Hero who began her battle against AML (acute myeloid leukemia) when she was six months old. She spent the following six months inside of a hospital fighting her her tiny life, all the while learning to sit up, talk, crawl, and even walk while undergoing her treatment! These are beautiful accomplishments for any one year-old but for a child undergoing cancer treatment to continue meet these milestones is…. encouraging. Yes, encouraging. I think encouraging has to be the best word for it because, as a mother, I can imagine being overwhelmed with joy when she met each one.
“My tiny little baby that was barely learning how to sit up on her own had cancer.”
~Heather Hernandez, Victoria’s mom
Victoria is now an outgoing four year-old in remission and her mother wants families who are battling childhood cancer to know:
“It may seem long and never ending, but if you just take one day at a time you will make it through. You are not alone in this battle. You must accept help from others.”
~ Heather Hernandez, Victoria’s mom
Help from others means WE have to be the OTHERS! The focus of a parent whose child is battling cancer should be on loving and fighting alongside their child. These parents should not be worried about finding the gas money to drive their child to treatment. They shouldn’t sleep in the hospital waiting room because they can’t afford a hotel stay near the hospital. And more importantly, there shouldn’t be anymore families battling childhood cancer at all! These are the things that Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation supports.
Here is what your donation could fund:
- $5: Supports Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation one cup at a time.
- $15: Provides a gas card to help a family drive to a hospital for treatment
- $25: Funds a half hour of childhood cancer research
- $50: Funds one hour of childhood cancer research
- $100: Enables a family to reside at a nearby hotel so they can stay close to their child receiving treatment
- $400: Funds one day of childhood cancer research
Auntie Anne’s and Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation partnered together in September, 2011, to help families fight the mighty battle against childhood cancer. Since partnering together, the two stores have raised more than one million dollars for childhood cancer research. This summer, they have a goal of $35,000 to fund 700 hours of childhood cancer research.
To thank those who send in a donation, Auntie Anne’s will email them a $1 off coupon, valid at participating U.S. stores, within 7-10 days after contribution is made. Additionally, they are also donating $0.25 towards childhood cancer research every time you share this campaign from Tilt.
