I was given this product (US and World map sets) in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are 100% my own. Please note: I do not home school my son. He goes to public school. We used these maps to help him study for his states and capitals tests and supplement his regular classwork.
Unleash a love of learning in your child with History Through the Ages hands-on history materials! Featuring timelines, maps, lap books, and history studies designed for your child to live the lessons! Nothing engages a child in the learning experience like hands-on activities! History should never be a boring subject – there’s far too much of it to enjoy! Travel the world, step back to days of old, become the heroes and heroines of the eras, and witness God’s providence woven throughout it! By being grounded in the “when” and “where” that timelines and maps provide, and living the history through hands-on activities, 3-dimensional projects, drama, cooking, living books and more, your child will be transported to a whole new world and experience the events and meet the amazing people who carved the paths we walk today! The materials we develop at Home School in the Woods are designed to do just that!
One of my favorite parts of this review is Home School in the Woods actual website. I love how it is set up. It’s easy to navigate and there are samples of most of their products so you can actually see what you will be purchasing. There is not guessing when it comes to your child’s education. I think that is very important. The video below will explain a little bit about why history is important, why we use timelines and mapping.
Timelines give us the when things happen in history but mapping gives us the where. I love HSITW (Home School in the Woods) concepts for teaching history. If I had learned it this way as a child, I would have LOVED history. In public school, all it ever was to me was a bunch of dates that I really disliked memorizing.
About US Maps and World Maps Combo Pack:
We also offer most maps in three formats: with labels, without labels, and without labels nor a title. This allows your students to use the map that best fits their needs. All Modern maps have a “labeled map” as an option. Several of the Ancient maps do as well, as there were distinct time periods that were classic to each one.
World Maps:
The World Maps set offers maps in Ancient and Modern styles! The set is so versatile. Not only does it include ancient map styles but it includes Modern Day world maps. I know that I don’t even know all the countries in Europe or Africa anymore. These maps help children learn the countries as well as complete projects with the countries. The World Map set includes notebook pages to complete different studies or activities for different countries. It even includes the maps for each country. My son hasn’t started learning the countries in school. But now that i have the World Map set, we can start him learning them this summer!
United States Maps:
The US Maps
I LOVE the bonuses that are included with this set. Each state has a “fact sheet” that my son actually used for a project he had to do in school. They have the state bird, flower, animal, facts about when the state was founded and even has the state flag. It also has an extra section for additional notes. My son had to do a project about New Jersey and he was able to utilize the notebook page for NJ to get him started and keep him organized.
The map we used the most is the sample shown below. His class was learning all the states and then the capitals. We were able to print a map out so we could number it and he could write down his answers. This is a great way for him to practice for his test. The act of writing it down helps those visual/hands on learners. If he can picture it in his mind, he can remember it that much easier.
Overall, Home School in the Woods has an amazing product in the US maps and World Maps combo pack! I highly recommend the combo pack for anyone who has a child in grade school/middle school. The packs are so versatile, students from Kindergarten to 8th grade can utilize them for school projects or to help them study for tests. The Combo pack comes as a download or you can order them on CDs. Go HERE to purchase your own set.
