Sunscreen, towels, umbrellas, beach chairs, coolers and toys. Sandy feet, salty skin and damp clothes. Yes, it’s almost that time of year again! When you go to the beach, what is your favorite activity to do?
Up in New England, swimming in the Atlantic is only for the brave or silly children. I haven’t gone in the 55 degree water for 5 years and then it was only up to my knees. My son swims anywhere, anytime. He refuses he isn’t cold even though his lips are blue and he is shivering.
Here are some of our favorite beach activities:
Sandcastle building: You are never too old to build a sandcastle. Don’t worry about buying a fancy set of toys- get creative and raid the Tupperware drawer or even the recycling bin.
Walking the beach: Don’t let your children know that this is really for exercise. It’s more fun to go on a treasure hunt for shells, sand dollars or beach glass. Remember the tupperware you brought for building sandcastles, you can use it to hold your treasures.
Jumping the Waves: So, for me, it has to be at least 95 degrees out and miserable for me to get in the water. I grew up jumping the waves, back before boogie boards, water boarding and lots of other water sports. Catching the right wave and not getting knocked over is always a refreshing activity!
When the sun says it’s time to go home, be sure to leave nothing behind. Did you know that your card can love the beach too? Read these great tips to help your car survive those beach trips.
