I have become somewhat of a Vacuum Cleaner Junkie. Over the last 5 years, I have tried over 6 different vacuums. In fact, we have a vacuum cleaner graveyard in the basement. I won’t mention the brands of vacuums down there except for one- my 12 year old Dyson Animal. It was a sad day when I had to put the old girl down. She had outlived all my other vacuums combined! I had replaced a hose or two, knew how to unclog the important parts, but I was spending more time doing vacuum cleaner maintenance then actual vacuuming. So, I tried a few different brands of “lightweight but powerful” vacuum cleaners. None even came close to the suction of my Dyson. Did you know that Dyson has 2 times the suction of other vacuums? None came close to ease of use of my Dyson. I could go on. But- I was so thrilled when I was told I was getting a DYSON DC65 Animal to review!! Mind you, I hate cleaning, so for me to get excited about a new vacuum, you know I was really desperate!
One of my favorite features of the Dyson is the Ball! It is so much easier to push a vacuum with the swivel ball then one without! My back can verify that for you. The Dyson may be a little heavier than the $99 lightweight vacuums, but you don’t notice when you have the agile ball that helps your Dyson glide along the floor any which way you push it!
Another one of my favorite things about a Dyson is it’s cleaning power. With the DC65, the brush bar power has increased by 25% for superior carpet cleaning. And the bristles have a new configuration to get out more dirt and dog hair by digging deeper into carpets. I can run my Dyson over a rug just once and it will pick up 99% of the dog hair. With one of my “other” vacuums, I have to vacuum the same spot 3 or 4 times to get rid of 75 to 80% of the dog hair. It now has 180AW of suction (vs. 160AW in DC41). So it’s more powerful which makes cleaning quicker! Gotta love that!
Of course, many companies will say they have the best performance on carpet. BUT- 75% of US homes have a combination of carpets and hard floors. We have about 25% of our house carpeted, the rest is hard wood or tile floors. Dyson has a self-adjusting baseplate so when you turn off the power brush, it will adjust to the height of the floor and when you turn the brush back on, it will adjust back to the height/pile of your carpet.
Here is another great feature shown below. Can your vacuum extend that far? I think I can reach every inch of ceiling in my house with that long-reach telescopic wand. It’s amazing! My problem is keeping track of all the attachments.
If any of your family members have allergies, they can breathe easier with the DC65. Remodeled air flows to help remove more dirt, dust, and allergens from the home. And, the filters are washable! Every 3 months it is recommended to clean them with cold water then let them dry for 24 hours before using the vacuum again. No more buying Fancy, expensive filters!
The only thing I would change about the Dyson DC65 is the cord storage. I LOVE cord retractors. There is just something about winding up the vacuum cleaner cord that I just dislike immensely, not sure why, but I do. One of my “other” vacuum cleaners had a cord retractor, I liked using it for the first few times until the suction stopped sucking!
Some other great Dyson DC65 features: Don’t forget about the easy and hygenic emptying of the bagless bin. I know some vacuums are horrible when it comes to emptying the bins. You end up getting all the dust back into the air instead of into the trash can. It also has closer edge pick-up then the “other” vacuums. It’s true. I tried it out. And, Dyson’s are made to stand up to about anything for at least 10 years- all the abuse of cranky kids, husbands, mean dogs and less than sweet moms who take out their aggressions on all appliances.
Go ahead- try the DC65 Animal! You will see for yourself that it cleans better than any other vacuum across carpet and hard floors.
