Cleaning is an inevitable part of everyone’s life. People are faced daily with the endless process of cleaning. The market is flooded with a huge number of different cleaning products which are usually chemical-based. Storing tons of such detergents in your cupboard has way too many disadvantages – it’s bad for your budget, for your health and the environment. Green cleaning has become extremely popular in the past few years. People have started to be more concerned about their health and the nature. All these chemicals which we inhale when doing our everyday cleaning are a very successful method to predispose ourselves to poor health and to also affect the environment in a negative way. There is a super easy green solution, which most probably sits right there in everyone’s cupboard or fridge. Mixing natural and absolutely chemical-free products can help us turn unpleasant cleaning into a nice time, by replacing strong chemical odours with pleasant natural scents. Here are our suggestions on how to make your own non-toxic cleaning kit, using simple products, such as baking soda and vinegar and thus protect your health, the environment and your pocket.
Mix ½ cup of baking soda with liquid detergent into a large bowl. Apply the mixture on a sponge and use to wash different types of surfaces. It’s a great recipe for cleaning your bathroom and toilet since it’s super easy to rinse and it doesn’t leave any grit. You can either make as much of this product as you need for one cleaning, or in case you want to store it for another use, add one teaspoon of vegetable glycerine and put the whole mixture in a sealed glass jar.
Window Cleaner
To make an effective and green window cleaner, mix ½ teaspoon of natural liquid detergent with 2 cups of water and add 3 tablespoons of white vinegar. Pour the solution in a spray bottle , shake well and use as a typical cleaner, only better since it’s free of chemicals.
Oven Cleaner
Sprinkle hot water over the surface of the oven, cover entirely with baking soda and sprinkle with some more water. Let it sit overnight and wipe away in the morning. The solution will have loosened most of the tough stains and it will be much easier to remove them. Then make a solution of hot water and liquid detergent and apply it on a sponge. Scrub the rest of the remaining stains, then rinse with warm water and dry with a cloth.
Furniture Polish
To add a non-toxic furniture polish to your green kit, mix ½ teaspoon of olive oil with ¼ cup of white vinegar or lemon juice. Dab a cloth into the home-made solution and use to polish surfaces. You can store the product in a glass jar.
Mould Cleaner
Everyone is aware of the fact how hard it is to remove mould. There is a nice chemical-free method to do it, simply using essential oils and water. Mix 2 cups of water with 2 teaspoons of tea tree oil. Put it in a spray bottle and use to remove mould and mildew.
Air-Freshener
A great way to make your own air-freshener is to boil lemon and orange slices and add cinnamon. While boiling, the lovely scent will immediately spread in your whole house. When it’s ready, let it cool, put it in a well-sealed spray bottle and store for a later use.
