Let’s face it: shopping, whether it’s for necessities or the little (or big) pleasures in life, can get expensive. More and more consumers are taking to the internet to take care of many of their purchases, simply because online stores offer lower prices in exchange for not having to deal with the overhead and hassle associated with maintaining a traditional brick and mortar establishment. Some online companies even take things a step further and do not offer detailed product descriptions or multiple shipping options, in exchange for slashing prices further. And of course if you purchase wholesale, you’ll save even more in terms of individual per-unit price, though there aren’t many everyday consumers who are looking to buy 50 or even 25 cell phone chargers.
When you’re shopping online, there are a few common and even not-so-common tricks that you can deploy in order to save as much money as possible, without necessarily sacrificing on whatever it is that you’re purchasing:
First and foremost, don’t ever complete an online purchase without first doing a quick search to see if there are hot promo codes available. Some online stores have coupon codes available all of the time, and they’ll be scattered all over the internet (GoDaddy, a popular domain registrar, even has blogs who exist for no other purpose than to keep track of and promote their coupon codes and seasonal promotions). With others, you may have to do a little digging, including on the company’s own website and Facebook fan page, in order to uncover deals. But trust us on this one – the digging is worth it, because you never know what type of money-saving opportunity you might turn up.
Second, be sure to look at not just a product’s price, but its shipping cost. Some sites offer free shipping on large orders or orders of a certain minimum cost, while others may charge a flat shipping rate no matter what you buy or how much you spend. So total up your purchase in terms of both the product itself and any associated shipping costs, and only then should you compare between websites to see which one offers the better deal.
Always choose the cheapest shipping option. Plan ahead for longer shipping times by purchasing items as far in advance as possible. Remember, waiting until last minute not only means you’ll be scrambling to make a purchase and may overlook coupon codes – it also means that you’ll pay more in shipping fees to get it to your doorstep faster.
