Christmas will have come and gone and all you want to do now is slip on a sweatsuit and hibernate. Not so fast! Finish the fashion year off right with these post-Christmas style tips.
Tidings of Comfort and Style
Perhaps you’ve put on a few holiday pounds or feel worn out from traveling or hosting guests. Looking your best can help you feel better and combat post-holiday blues. When a little bit of extra comfort really is in order, find a way to make it look good. A long sweater worn over a pair of comfy leggings goes from frumpy to fabulous when you add long necklaces or a belt, but it still feels cozy and soft. A pair of fur-lined leather boots can soothe tired tootsies while you go about your daily routine, yet they look incredibly chic. If it’s cold weather that’s got you dressing down, skip the shapeless, puffy ski parka and keep warm with more stylish outerwear, like a masculine, tailored coat or even a fur vest, instead.
Shopping the Sales
Post-Christmas sales are a great opportunity to treat yourself to all the fashion you wanted for the holidays but didn’t get. It’s also a chance to score some good deals on upscale brands you might not be able to afford the rest of the year. Look for quality, not quantity in your mad dash through the clearance racks this post-Christmas shopping season. You’ll get far more mileage out of a few well-made, great-fitting wardrobe basics than you will from a whole shopping bag full of lower-end items. Have you always wanted a killer pair of boots, a to-die-for tennis bracelet or a designer-label little black dress? Now’s the time to grab them.
Wardrobe Integration
Between gifts from friends and family and self-gifted sale items, you’re bound to find yourself with several new outfits to work into your regular clothing rotation. Enjoy a week or two of sporting a new look from head to toe, then get the most bang for your buck by integrating newer items with old favorites to create entirely new looks and transform pieces you may have worn to death over the past year into born-again wardrobe staples. Now is also the perfect time to go through your closet and discover hidden treasures that may have been shoved aside during the past twelve months or streamline your wardrobe by getting rid of ill-fitting, out-of-date items you no longer need or want.
Glamour Resolution
Chances are, during the season’s many Christmas parties and get-togethers, you probably donned your best clothes, spent extra time styling your hair and added a little extra bling to your look. Don’t let post-holiday letdown send you right back to Frumpsville. Maintain just a little bit of that special Christmas sparkle right into the new year by making a resolution to look your best on a daily basis. Add some eye-catching earrings to your workday look. Wear heels to the grocery store just because you can. Don a subtly sequined cardigan for church and turn heads up and down your pew. Whatever you do, don’t pack away the party dresses just yet. New Year’s Eve is right around the corner, after all.
The post-Christmas blahs are no excuse to neglect your personal style. If Santa left a little something stylish in your stocking this year, find a way to work it into your existing wardrobe and take advantage of post-Christmas prices to add complimentary pieces to your closet that will help you look holiday-party fabulous all year long.
