I was given these super cute books, free of charge, for purposes of this review. All opinions are 100% my own.
The Katie Woo early chapter books each feature four stories and colorful illustrations throughout and are perfect for explaining life changes, family celebrations and growing up. The fun, light-hearted stories focus on Katie in school and the challenges and experiences that life as a first grader brings — perfect for young girls settling in to school this year. The world of Katie Woo is packed with videos, downloadable activity pages, recipes, and more — check it all out here at Capstone Kids.
Katie Woo, written by Fran Manushkin, leads the reader on all kinds of fun adventures in her books. She always ends up in some mischief, but she figures out the right thing to do before the story ends. The Katie Woo, Don’t Be Blue book is my favorite one. Everyone has a bad day once in awhile, even Katie! In one story, Katie was scared that her home was going to get washed away in a flood. Her and her parents made the best of the situation and the night in the shelter on the cots, turned out OK in the end. On an overnight trip to her grandparent’s house, Katie got homesick. Once she learned she was sleeping in her mom’s old room and found her mom’s old Teddy Bear, she felt better and had a great time.
I love how Katie finds the best in the situation and how her parents love her and help her figure out the best solution. The illustrations by Tammie Lyon are amazing and really draw you in!
I love the recipes and crafts at the end of each book! Lots of fun to be had in each book!
This fun activity book covers all the creative activities you love to do in one place! Color, draw, do puzzles and more. The pages are super thick so the heavy-handed artist can’t rip the pages unintentionally. I remember the old activity and coloring books I used to have. I was always disappointed when the page would rip from too much erasing or using markers.
