Camp Broadway

October 2, 2013 by Pam Maynard

Located in New York City, Camp Broadway offers children ages 10 – 17 the chance to learn theater skills from professional actors and dancers. Even younger children ages 6 – 9 (“Shining Stars”) learn to develop their own scripts, help paint and decorate sets and put together original costumes. They then present their original work.
Camp Broadway students (ages 10 -17 ) learn acting, choreography, and singing from professionals who have performed in famous Broadway plays. Next Step (ages 15 – 18) hone their basic acting and performing skills under the guidance of professional actors, singers and dancers. As a final project, they perform a solo performance in their specialty and also take part in an ensemble performance.

West Coast Children’s Theaters

Seattle, Washington
Stone Soup Theater Summer Program offers children ages 5 – 13 the chance to perform during summer and year round. Children learn performance skills as well as other summer camp activities.

Studio East offers performing arts programs year round for children as young as four years old. Children ages 4 – 6 can attend a one week camps where they can create and perform their own plays. In addition to acting skills, children learn self confidence and social skills. Children in grades 2 – 6 not only create a play in the one week program but complete a two week program which includes a musical production complete with costumes.

San Francisco Bay Area
One of the oldest theater companies in the area, the walnut creek children’s theatre gives children the theatrical experience with a twist of whimsy. Many of the productions are musicals or comedies with quirky names like “The Adventures of Sheer Luck Holmes” and “Aladdin and the Magic Lava Lamp”. Children need no experience and the ages range from elementary through early high school. Unlike some children’s theater programs, every child in a production has a speaking part. This not only enhances acting skills but builds self confidence and self esteem.
