“Cans Get You Cooking” is a program dedicated to spreading the message that the ironclad technology of cans seals in freshness, flavor, nutrition, and goodness so that you can create meals you feel good about serving and that your family will love.
If you take a walk down the canned food aisle, do you turn your nose up at the canned fruits and veggies? How about the soups and sauces? I don’t know about you, but I love canned baked bean, canned fruit, tuna and much more. In fact, I have a Cantry in my Pantry and my basement. My hubby believes in being prepared. He makes this amazing Chicken and Dumplings with Hormel Chicken Breast, cream of chicken soup and Del Monte Mixed Veggies.
Did you know that 73% of Americans throw away spoiled fruits and vegetables on average two times a week. Cans help make sure nature’s bounty doesn’t go to waste. How often do you buy fresh peaches and end up throwing out the over-ripe ones less than a week later. Canned peaches are one of my favorite canned fruits. Think of how much money you would save if you bought canned peaches instead of fresh. Del Monte makes them without syrup so there are no added calories! How about Macaroni and Cheese with Tomato? Here is a great recipe Del Monte:

- 1/2 cup butter or margarine
- 1 pkg. (12 oz.) dried elbow macaroni
- 1 Tbsp. flour
- 1-1/4 cups low-fat milk
- 1/2 lb. low-fat sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
Instructions:
1. Melt butter in large skillet. Add macaroni and undrained tomatoes. Cook, stirring occasionally for 5 minutes.
2. Add 1-1/2 cups of water; bring to boil. Cover and simmer 15 minutes or until tender.
3. Sprinkle in flour, blend well.
4. Stir in milk and cheese. Simmer 3 minutes until cheese is melted.
