Keeping Them Entertained: Tips for a Long Road Trips With Kids

September 24, 2013 by Pam Maynard

Long road trips can be tiring and stressful. This is even more true if you are traveling with a car full of children. Young kids can easily get very restless in the midst of long travels and choose to voice their discontent with anguished cries and nagging questions that can threaten your sanity on the road. With this in mind, it is a good idea to have a few plans to entertain them to best maintain your sanity and arrive safely at your destination.

Reading Material

Not only does reading present the opportunity to keep your children quite and occupied, it is also beneficial for their educational enrichment. If you are going on a summer vacation and your children have reading lists for the coming year of school, having them get some of that work out of the way during your long drive is a great way to give them a head start on the coming year, and free up your vacation time. You might also want to get some comics or magazines that fit the interests of your children, so they have a fun thing to read as well.

Books on Tape

If you can find a story that you and your kids both have an interest in, getting it on tape can be a great way to experience it together, and make your time in the car go by a lot quicker than it otherwise might. Even better, if you can find a book series with multiple entries that are worth checking out, you’ll have ongoing stories to enjoy for long trips as well as the ride back.

Music and Headphones

If your children have MP3 players, and headphones plugged in, chances are that they will be making a lot less noise. So long as they don’t choose to sing along, or have headphones that bleed too much audio, you should have the opportunity to enjoy a relaxing, quiet drive. You might even be able to get a little bit of thinking done.

These are just a few options for making your long road trips more palatable for you and your family. There are loads of others out there. You can even get a little creative if you like and have games and contests to keep children occupied. Don’t forget to plan for other aspects of a long drive. Find quality tires http://simpletire.com so you are prepared for any kind of weather and conditions. With these suggestions you should be ready for the road.
