5 Creative Ways to Prepare for the School Dances this Year

September 18, 2013 by Pam Maynard

A new school year means new school events like dances! From updo styles fresh from the runway to daring color accents, your hair styles will be gorgeous with these five creative ideas for your next dance.

School Dances this Year

1. Bejeweled Hair Styles

For a semi-formal or formal dance, create a dressy look with a jeweled headband. For a fresh take, pin a rhinestone necklace into your updo like a headband. This is also a more modern take on a tiara for prom.

Other jeweled accessories like bobby pins or clips work well with both up and down hair styles. For hair worn down, try a deep side part and keep hair out of your eyes with a jeweled clip for a “vintage glam” look.

2. Braided Looks Straight From the Runway

Braids have been seen all over fashion show runways this year and are a great trend to incorporate into your school dance hair styles. Braid a small section of hair along the side of your head and sweep it up into a ponytail or updo for an edgy twist on a classic style. A braided ponytail can be twirled around and pinned into a bun for another hot runway look.

3. Temporary Highlights in a Bright Color

Hair chalk can be found at any beauty supply store and is very easy to apply. Choose one or several small sections of hair and rub the chalk over the hair until you reached the desired level of color saturation. Use hairspray on these sections to seal the color onto your hair.

4. Sultry yet Casual Beach Waves

For a beachy-chic vibe, spritz texturizing sea salt spray on damp hair and let dry naturally into gorgeous flowing waves. This look is casual but very pretty, especially with a flower clip to highlight the surfer girl look.

5. The Modern Twisted Updo

French twists can be too severe but an updo with several twisted sections of hair looks modern and creative. Separate hair into several sections, twist each section from root to tip, and pin back against the head in any swirled pattern you choose. This is a detailed look but requires little skill to create it.

These fun and creative ideas are great for school dances because they are youthful yet sophisticated. These hair styles are also easy to do own your own, or enlist a friend to help you. A few extra minutes on your hair makes a huge impact at a school dance!
