10 Best Storage Ideas

August 30, 2013 by Pam Maynard

Regardless of the size of your office or home, there almost never seems to be enough space to put everything. Most people have a hard time deciding what to do with all their stuff, but there are many ways to stash away all that “stuff” you don’t know what to do with. Do you put it in the garage? There is always the chance that it will get flooded! Do you put it in the loft or attic? It’s hard to get down, and you often forget about things that are stored up there. In the guide below, you’ll get some of the best storage ideas that will work in every room of your home.

Renting a Storage Space

If you’ve ever moved from a large home or office into a smaller building, you probably discovered that you couldn’t fit all your stuff into your new digs.

Before you start paying monthly rent on a storage unit, go through all your stuff–and only keep what you need, use and value. Be very careful in choosing a storage unit to ensure your belonging’s safety, like the self storage in Riyadh.

If you’ve already taken that step and still need some extra space, look for the following in a storage place:

  • An onsite manager
  • Easy access
  • Equipment such as dollies and push carts
  • Audio/video security
  • A guard on duty
  • Climate controls
  • Rollup doors (they increase the amount of usable space)
  • Reasonable payment terms

In the Bathroom

The bathroom is one of the most often used (but commonly overlooked) rooms in the home. Use one or more of the following inexpensive, easy ideas to quickly increase your available storage.

  • Hang baskets on the wall to hold soap, bath toys, tissues, soap and other needs.
  • Use the shower for storage. Hang a few hooks to hold things like bags of bath toys, body brushes and washcloths.
  • Install shelves wherever there’s empty wall space.
  • Save space with over-the-door towel racks, which are available at most department and home improvement stores.

Bedroom Storage

  • Store winter bedding and other infrequently used items under the bed with flat rollout storage bins.
  • Turn your bed’s headboard into a mini storage unit. Shelves can hold lamps, clock radios, and books, and cabinets can hold extra linens and blankets.

In the Kitchen

Most people spend a good portion of their day in the kitchen, and in some cases, things can get cramped. Use the ideas below to maximize your space and organize your kitchen.

  • Open up some extra counter space by installing an above-counter shelf to hold your microwave oven.
  • Save drawer space by storing wooden and plastic utensils in a canister or pitcher (like a bouquet).
  • If you don’t have enough kitchen cabinet space for your cooking pans and pots, hang them from the ceiling or wall hooks, and use a step stool or ladder to get them when needed.

Best Storage Ideas

The space in your home is finite, but your creativity is endless. There are so many ways to create extra storage space that almost any home or office can be turned from a disorganized mess into a neat, clean, and orderly space. By using some of the best storage ideas above, you can use the space you have to the best of your ability.
