SkyDeck Review- One of Chicago’s Most Exciting Attractions!

August 17, 2013 by Pam Maynard

I received complimentary passes and a tour of the Skydeck for purposes of this post.  All opinion are 100% my own.

Go out on the Ledge, if you dare!

Step outside the tallest building in the western hemisphere and the third tallest in the world. At 1,353 feet in the air, the Ledge’s glass boxes extend out 4.3 feet from Skydeck. My blogger friends and I was lucky enough to get a personalized tour of the Skydeck inside the Willis Towner!  It was amazing!  103 stories high- you could see for miles!  We heard about the history of the Skydeck from the general manager on our tour.  Follow along in the video below to hear about the highlights of the tour!

What does it look like straight down through the glass box?  It looks like mini LEGO figures walking around on the street!
The Ledge provides unobstructed views of miniature-looking people, taxis and bridges from glass floors 1,353 feet over Wacker Drive and the Chicago River.

Some fun facts about the Skydeck:

On a clear day, you can see four states – Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Michigan. Visibility from the Skydeck is approximately 40-50 miles (65 – 80 kilometers).
Willis Tower is the eighth-tallest building in the world; it remains the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere, standing 1,450 feet and 110 stories tall.
Approximately 25,000 people enter the building each day.
Approximately 1.3 million tourists visit the Skydeck each year.
Willis Tower elevators operate as fast as 1,600 feet (488 meters) per minute – among the fastest in the world.
Sounds like fun- doesn’t it? See Chicago like you have never seen it before!  Find out more information HERE.
