The Way to a Man’s Heart

July 11, 2013 by Pam Maynard

They say that a the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, but what do you do if you don’t know your rump from your sirloin and your gravy comes out of a packet? It’s simple, you need to be the best shopper in the world or live in an area where lots of takeaways deliver great meals. Those tactics are good for the first year or two of any relationship, but what do you do when complacency creeps in or to impress on special occasions?

A trip to Marks and Spencer’s or Waitrose is okay for everyday treats, but you need to think out of the box if you want to wake the taste buds up. We’ve put together some great suggestions that will remind your man who butters the bread in the house and why you do it. Of course, some of them help when you live in the city, which unfortunately I don’t, but it wouldn’t be fair to the rest of you if I left them out.

The Luxury Chef to Order

In London, there’s a service found at Deliverence.co.uk, that has 84 chefs on hand to cook from a very broad menu. The difference between these guys and your local takeaway is that the food is cooked by real chefs and not just some guy who knows how to use a frying pan. The recipes are detailed and require some knowledge of the kitchen instead of the usual just throw it all in and let it cook through approach.

If you don’t live in London, you may need to dig a little to get the same sort of service. Try this approach; if you know of a good restaurant that doesn’t do takeaways, call them up and explain that it’s a special occasion and you really like their food, but are unable to attend. Then ask them to prepare a meal and you will arrange a pick up. Then either drive there yourself or have someone (possibly a taxi?) to collect it for you.

Luxury Food Straight From the Farm

Many men have two things in common; the love of strong cheese and good meat. Both of those products are best sourced at a farm and nothing says you care more than tracking down some great farmhouse cheeses and steak that is tenderstretched, dry-hung for 28 days on the bone. It will definitely cost a bit more, but there’s no doubt the steak will melt in the mouth. If you want to impress your man further, source some wild venison sausages for the perfect mixed grill. Good ingredients make great meals, so even if you can’t cook, you will not go far wrong.

If you Really Can’t Cook and Hate Washing Up

Even when you have a great meal cooked by someone else or you manage to get the steak just perfect, someone has to do the washing up and whether that’s simply placing everything in a dishwasher or doing everything by hand, it’s a chore nonetheless. If you want to get around or at least minimise the dishes issue, but still go through the stomach to your man’s heart, check out the luxury hampers for men on offer. There are great examples with something to suit most tastes. For example, we found some perfect for golf or train enthusiasts at SpiffingHampers.co.uk.

Karen Wheeler is a mother to three lovely boys and a wife to a wonderful husband who is appreciative and considerate, which is why she makes the effort to be the same.
