Can Pinterest DIY Projects Increase Your Home’s Curb Appeal?

June 13, 2013 by Pam Maynard

Curb appeal is the first impression that your home makes on people when they see it from the street. A homeowner gets a sense of pride about his home when he has strong curb appeal, and it can also help you to bump up the asking price of your home as well. Pinterest is the social networking website where people post their project ideas. If you check out Pinterest, you will find plenty of DIY projects you can use to improve your home’s first impression.

One of the first things that people notice when they walk towards your home is your entry path. A flagstone path is a hand-laid stone path that can be done in a variety of colors and patterns. There is no single look to a flagstone path, and you will find plenty of examples of how to make one for your home. The difficulty of making a flagstone path ranges from very easy to moderately hard, based on your level of expertise.

Outdoor Chandelier

If you have an old chandelier that has a sturdy, wrought iron frame, then you have the makings for an outdoor fixture that will add elegance to your home at night. By removing the lighting fixtures and replacing them with candles, you can have something that will really catch people’s attention. It is a simple DIY project that can reap big rewards. Just be sure that you contact a representative at Home Owners Insurance to see if the company has any rules against hanging candle chandeliers on your front porch.

Yard Decorations

Pinterest is filled with great ideas on how to make your own unique yard decorations to enhance your home’s curb appeal. A good example is a project that stacks several flower pots into a design that looks like something out of a Dr. Seuss story, and then topping it off with a stone bird bath. How about stacking flower pots to look like a man sitting your front yard? You can add a little colorful paint and you have something that will be a great conversation starter for new visitors to your home.

Branch Screen

Some people will buy temporary screens to separate parts of a room or to have some privacy on the patio. Pinterest has a project that teaches you how to make a screen from sticks and branches. This is a project made from materials you will find in your yard and it can really enhance the view that your home offers from the road.

Raised Garden Bed

Believe it or not, planting a few flowers in the front yard can add color and value to your home. There is a Pinterest project that teaches you how to create a raised garden bed which will allow you to put your flowers at an angle and make them easier to see from the road. This is an easy project and a great way to add attention-grabbing color to your front yard.

Pinterest is the place where DIY enthusiasts find some of their most unique ideas. If you spend enough time there, you will find hundreds of projects that you can do yourself which will raise the curb appeal of your home.
