About the book:
It’s not unusual to see a gorilla beating its chest at the zoo, but it is unusual to see it boxing with a mosquito. You’ve probably seen camels walking through the desert on television, but I bet you’ve never seen them in a bowling league at the bowling alley. I’m sure you’ve seen chicken strut around in the chicken pen from time to time, but I bet you’ve never seen a sunburned chicken. Kangaroos are fun animals that normally hop all over the place, but I’m sure that you’ve never seen them hop on someone’s head. Just like humans, animals sometimes do strange and unexpected things. Step inside this book of wonders and enjoy the animals that are sure to capture your attention.
“Has A Donkey Ever Brought You Breakfast In Bed? (Weird Animals doing Wacky Things)” is one of my son’s newest favorite picture books! He reads to a 1st grader every week and he read Pat’s book to him TWICE because they both loved it. What’s not to love about Weird Animals Doing Wacky Things? He loved it because it was funny but also because it rhymes. It’s so much fun to read rhyming books. He said his “buddy’s” favorite page was the one with the Gorilla and the mosquito. My son’s favorite page was the cows with measles galore. I have to admit, that was my favorite one too. Really, how could you tell if a cow had measles? They would have to be shaved or hairless cows.
Pat has a way with words that grabs the kids’ imaginations and then lets it run wild with her funny animal antics. I have always loved funny picture books that make your child smile. We had a “grumpy” book for Justin when he was little. It was our go to book to turn frowns upside down. I know “Has a Donkey Ever Brought You Breakfast in Bed?” would have been one of those books. The book is fun, easy to read and is a wonderful break from everyday life. People do strange things sometimes, animals can too! Remember to keep your eyes open and your imagination turned up and just about anything could happen.
I love the illustrations as well. They compliment Pat’s text perfectly. Karen added little things in each illustration that catches children’s eyes and keeps them asking for more! They are as colorful as Pat’s writing.
Mom Does Reviews gives “Has a Donkey Ever Brought You Breakfast in Bed?” two huge thumbs up. Well, FOUR huge thumbs up, 2 from my son! I highly recommend this book for children ages 3 and up. You’re never too old for some fun animal antics!
