Do you remember the days of making mud pies? If you have never made a mud pie, you are missing out! Of course, the more rain that came down, the more muddier the mud got! Of course, once you got started with the mud pies, you could never stop there. First the shoes and socks came off, then you wiggled your toes into the cool, oozing mud that squished up between your toes. Then before long, you decide you need to rinse your hands off and feet so Mom won’t get too mad.. One thing leads to another, and before you know it, you have dunked your head into the puddle to get your wet hair clean too. Then mom comes out with big towels and a strange expression on her face. You think she might yell, but she just smiles and carries you into the house for a warm bath!
Those were the days! I remember my son doing the exact same thing. He didn’t stop at the head dunking, he went for it and laid down in the puddle. And yes, I was standing there holding back a laugh so I wouldn’t shake the camera while I was taking pictures. Why did I let him play in the mud? Here are 5 great reasons:
- It’s fun! I know you remember how much fun it was when you did it!
- They wash right up in a hot bath and their clothes do too! My mother-in -law was horrified when she heard what her grandson had done. Good thing he didn’t do it when we were visiting. Her off-white carpets would not have been happy.
- Rain Boots! AlexaandAlexa Joules Rain Boots will keep those toes dry for those days when jumping in mud puddles will delight your child. carry some great choices for your little one.
- It’s going to happen one day anyway, you might as well let him get it out of his system! It’s better if you’re there not only to enjoy his joy, but to make sure he stays afloat in the puddle.
- It’s a great sensory experience. So many new textures, temperatures and emotions to feel.
So, next time it rains and you have a big puddle in your yard, grab a towel, rain boots and your sense of adventure and let them play. You might find that you want to join in!!
