There comes a time in every home where a room is simply in need of a change. Whether this is your kitchen, bedroom, or living room, you can add new life to a room with simple changes and modern amenities. For the bathroom many are limited on the size of a budget or even the size of the room. In many home layouts, the bathroom is simply a small area meant for hygiene and nothing more. However, there are simple ways to update your bathroom without a complete overhaul.
New Paint, New Size
Any interior decorator will tell you that paint is more than a color. You can use light colors to make a room seem larger than it actually is. White, cream, icy blue or even a pale eggshell can make your small bathroom seem much larger. Darker colors absorb light and make the room seem small while the lighter colors reflect light. Combining lighter colors with large mirrors or windows can create an entirely new feel.
Clutter Affects the Room Feel
People rarely think of the clutter in their bathrooms. Toothbrushes, hairbrushes, small appliances and makeup thrown on countertops can make your room seem small and dirty. Organizing the clutter can bring your bathroom back to life, make it seem larger, and even make you feel better while in the room. Use medicine cabinets, drawers, or even baskets to eliminate the clutter and add a modern feel.
A Change in Lighting Can Go a Long Way
If you have a large window in your bathroom don’t cover it up unless necessary. Large windows can bring the room together with the outdoors and create a bright space that seems endless. Natural light is the best way to make any room bright and cheery.
If your bathroom lacks natural light, you can create new lighting effects fairly cheaply. By using small chandeliers, accent lighting over the sink, or even new wall sconces, you can create modern lighting at a low cost. While choosing light bulbs for your lighting you have many options. If you want to mimic natural light, choose a fluorescent bulb with a CRI of 100. For more ambience, you can choose bulbs with a softer glow and lower CRI.
Choosing New Fixtures
Nothing modernizes a room like the latest fixtures. Some of these can get pretty expensive unless you shop around. As with any industry, there are trends that are popular and there are companies that offer these designs at lower prices. A few of the fixtures you may want to consider would be your sink, cabinets, and tub.
Many homeowners are eliminating the tub and are replacing it with a standing shower. If you find you do not use your tub, this is a viable option. By removing the tub you can often sell it and put the profit toward convert the space to a standing shower.
The sinks we are used to are no longer in style. Many cabinet mounted sinks are being replaced with pedestal or wall mounted fixtures, opening up space. The conventional sink is being replaced with large bowls or square shallow fixtures. Choose a design that works with the rest of the décor and shop around for the best deal.
Creating the home of your dreams doesn’t have stay in your dreams. With a few small changes, you can make any room in your home new and fresh again. There are modern designs in bathroom fixtures and lighting that can take it from drab to fab with little cost. Take a look at your current bathroom and see which small change will revitalize the space.
