Imagine you are at your favorite restaurant with your favorite person and out walks this immaculately dressed waiter. He smiles, he treats you like royalty and gives all around great service. Half way through the meal, your dream waiter informs you that he has to leave and introduces you to his co-worker. This new waiter is just as charming, treats you just as well and gives outstanding service. But, there is one big difference- his restaurant uniform is wrinkled, his waist apron is stained and his tie is crooked. All of a sudden, your meal just doesn’t taste as good and your waiter doesn’t seem as charming as your first waiter who was immaculately dressed.
The image patrons get from a sharp uniform carries over into the whole dining experience. If all the staff is sharply dressed, your experience is similar to a 5-star restaurant, even if you are eating in a diner. Appearance is important. My mom always says if the bathroom isn’t clean, don’t eat there. I think if your wait staff isn’t sharply dressed, you might re-think what you might be getting from the kitchen. Lazy, sloppy dressers are more likely to be lax in their cooking, cleaning and presentation food skills.
Just remember, the sharper the uniform, the better the dining experience! Pay attention next time you go out for dinner. See if my theory is true for you!
