The Wallet Wand Review and Interview with the Inventor!

January 26, 2013 by Pam Maynard

The Wallet Wand- Transform Your Wallet into a Purse!

I was very intrigued when I learned about The Wallet Wand.  I am always lugging my purse everywhere when I really only need my wallet.  Sometimes I grab just my wallet, but it was too big to put into my pocket.  When I saw how The Wallet Wand can transform a checkbook sized wallet into a purse in minutes, I knew this would be perfect for me!  I needed a new wallet anyway and found this cute Relic Wallet at Kohls for only $4.50, gotta love sales.  The kit comes with 2 different wands, 2 chains (1 silver, 1 gold) and 4 adhesive strips.  It was so easy transform my new wallet into a stylish purse.

All I had to do was place the adhesive strip on the wand, press it into the crease and hook the chain to the holes in the ends of the wand.  It fit perfectly into my wallet and I was ready to go!  I chose the gold chain the match the gold closure snap.

When doing my super-mom duties yesterday, I had the opportunity to use my new purse!  After I picked my son up at school, we had to run into the grocery store for a few items.  Instead of lugging my whole purse, I grabbed my wallet, looped the chain over my shoulder and away we went.  I always keep my keys in my pocket anyway, so forgetting my keys is never an issue.  We breezed through the store and at checkout, instead of digging through my purse to find my wallet, i just opened my new stylish purse and pulled out my credit card.  It was so easy and stress-free, I hope all my shopping trips will be that easy.

I love the length of the chains.   I could wear them over my shoulder, cross body or loop the chain and just carry it like a handbag.  I like the hands-free options the best.

I highly recommend The Wallet Wand for  Super Moms everywhere!  You’ll never leave home without it!

Read about the mastermind behind The Wallet Wand!

Thanks to Jamie, CEO of Jaya Go, Inventor of the Wallet Wand for taking the time to do this interview with me!

Pam: Can you give us a brief explanation of what The Wallet Wand is?
Jamie: The Wallet Wand transforms your wallet into a purse. This convenient and easy-to-use wand turns your fashionable checkbook wallets into your favorite shoulder bags. With The Wallet Wand, you can stay organized, lighter, and always ready to go!
Pam: How did you come up with the idea?
Jamie: I think one day I was looking in my closet and realized I was tired of dealing with an overstuffed purse – I never fully cleaned them out and was always rifling through them to find what I needed. So, I started carrying around smaller clutches. This was great because the smaller the purse, the less stuff you can accumulate and therefore the easier it is to keep clean. These smaller purses didn’’t have the organizational features I need though, so I started carrying around my wallet.
It takes just one time to set down your wallet and forget about it for you to realize that you have to take it out of your hands. So, I took a long, thin strap from another purse and wove it into the spine of a zip-around wallet. This wallet had this really beautiful paisley print on a magenta background. I always got compliments about my purse. Not only was I carrying around exactly what I needed, nothing more nothing less, but it was a super fashionable wallet that made an even more stylish handbag! I quickly noticed that the wallet started bending in the middle because there was no support in the spine. I needed something small enough to fit in the spine of a standard checkbook-sized wallet and sturdy enough to provide support so that when a strap is attached the wallet won’t collapse in the middle. I had an idea that literally rested on my shoulder for more than a year before I eventually made the leap and The Wallet Wand was born!
Pam: What gave you the courage to turn your idea into an actual product?
Jamie: When I finally decided to design a solution that would become The Wallet Wand and actually manufacture and put it on the market, my biggest push was definitely the support from my family and friends who all said, “I want one!” and kept encouraging me.
Pam: How have you managed your job of managing your family and raising your kids with starting/running The Wallet Wand?
Jamie: I don’t think I truly imagined that this “project” would require so much of my time. While I like to think I can give 110% to parenting and 110% to my job, I also know that I would not have been able to be as effective at either without the support of my family and friends. We are in the process (and likely will be for awhile) of hosting many play dates so that I can feel like I am paying back all the favors!

Pam: Do you have plans on designing a new Mom-friendly product in the near future?

I don’t have specific plans on developing a new product, however I think we all have ideas that pop up in our heads when we’re doing our everyday tasks – especially since raising kids involves doing a million tasks everyday for someone else. The market is full of things for which I have thought, “I should have invented that!” Now that I have the experience of bringing a product to market, I know that if I designed something I thought was worthwhile, I would be able to successfully go through the process of developing it.

Pam: Did you have to get outside funding or did your family help?

The business is fully funded from money withdrawn from my IRA with support from a business line of credit. I hope to keep the business completely separate from my family’s finances.
Pam: What has creating The Wallet Wand taught you?Jamie: That we women create magic. The Wallet Wand’s 1920’s magician/art deco brand design continues to remind me that we can make our own magic by taking our dreams and making them a reality. Building my business has proven to be a labor of love and I’m reminded that we women are so capable of multi-tasking and achieving everything we set our minds to.
