Did you notice that some of the fashion trends from way back are coming back lately? The vintage dresses, the colorful pants, the neon shoes, etc. Guess what’s coming back to town in 2013? Yep, the 90’s is so back! The 90’s babies and going to be very happy.
Back in the 90’s, people just wear anything. It was actually dubbed as the ‘Anti-Fashion’ era. Unstyled hair, heavy makeup and dark lips, or no makeup at all, big shoes, big men’s shirts, long dresses, jumpers. It was the wear-anything-you-find-in-the-closet kind of fashion. It basically gave fashion its real meaning: wear anything that you feel confident and comfortable.
We predict that everyone’s old jumpers and Doc Martens will be unearthed. Or maybe kids today will go to Doc Martens to buy their own pair. Another piece that will come back to life are the denim jackets. One thing you can do with your old denim jacket is cut off the sleeves and put it on top of a white shirt. It will sure look awesome and so 90’s! You can also do this to your old flannel shirts. Sleeveless, unbuttoned flannel shirts look awesome on top of any plain shirt and accessorize with metal pieces like big necklaces and leather bracelets. The rise of shoes with spikes also reminds me of the 90’s. Find a pair of leather half boots with metal spikes or designs. It will surely look great with denim shorts. Speaking of denim shorts, try to cut off some of your old jeans (or maybe your mom’s old pair) and rip the edges a little to create that dirty look. Plain colored shirts with big, single prints would also hit the spot. Try to spray some paint on your big shirts, or draw some design. There are a lot of materials available in the bookstore. Put on hats like bowlers or fedoras. Knitted hats also look cute!
That is actually the best thing about the 90’s grunge – you can do it yourself. You can cut the sleeves off, or cut the jeans shorter, or paint your shirt. No one would care. The good thing is that you can cut it to whatever length you want, or paint whatever to your shirt. This is creativity, self-expression, and comfortability. This is you dressing up as you want. Unless you’re the kind that just goes with the fad and changes styles everytime there is a new thing out. In anything you wear, put a little of your personality in it. For 2013, bring out your inner 90’s kid and enjoy the anti-fashion kind of fashion!
