Pregnancy is a special time of life. Finding out you’re expecting can be one of the most exciting and overwhelming moments you’ve ever experienced.
Telling friends and family the news, and beginning to adjust to your new status of mother-to-be can leave you in a breathless whirlwind. Soon after, however, you may find yourself racing to keep up.
Fatigue can be strong in early pregnancy, and although your body adjusts in the later trimesters, the rush to prepare your life in just nine short months can be enough to make you long for the calmer days in which you had less to consider.
As many will tell you, it’s important to cherish this special time and try to pamper yourself as much as possible. This can be easier said than done. Between work and home responsibilities you may not have much time to dedicate to your wellbeing during pregnancy, but there are ways to maintain your sanity and feel great without even having to leave the house.
Eat Well
Part of pampering during pregnancy has to do with paying special attention to the special needs of your body and mind.
Pamper yourself by giving in to occasional cravings in an intelligent way. Splurge on high-quality chocolate or delicious berries. Enjoy a cup of gourmet decaf coffee or an imported tea.
Taking the time to pamper yourself by preparing delicious healthy meals is another great way to indulge during this time. Be sure to include a large variety of fruits and vegetables in your diet, along with whole grains, lean proteins and plenty of calcium-rich foods.
Allow time for Sleep
The simple act of scheduling time in your busy schedule for extra sleep can be extremely indulgent. Cancel your last meeting or cut back on the time you normally dedicate to other demanding activities in order to get more rest. Your body and mind will thank you for this.
Evaluate your sleep environment and be sure you have comfortable bedding, with pillows to support your growing figure. You can buy your nursing nightwear early in order to enjoy its soft comfort during maternity as you rest.
Practice Light Exercise
Going for a gentle morning or evening stroll can work wonders on your mental and physical state of mind. Depending on your fitness level, you can increase to an invigorating power walk if you desire. Other great exercises during maternity include yoga, stretching, swimming and even aerobics. The boost in endorphins from keeping your body moving will have multiple rewards.
Cut Yourself Some Slack
There may be days when you feel like doing nothing more than relaxing in your nursing nightwear and staying on the couch. You simply must allow yourself this time- it is your body’s subtle way of telling you to slow down. Stay in touch with your feelings, and if you’re feeling overwhelmed for any reason, take a break.
Spend Time with Loved Ones
Nurture your relationships with those closest to you. There has never been a better time to stay connected with those you care about most. This means scheduling lunch with friends, and of course enjoying quality time with your partner as you both prepare to welcome your bundle of joy.
