Christmas Moving Tips

November 30, 2012 by Pam Maynard

Five Great Tips to Make it Less Stressful!

Moving is inevitably a stressful situation where we often need to cope with a whole variety of problems and nothing can be more true than doing that right in Christmas. Whatever the reason, this is one of the worst times to do a moving job. You will be interrupting your schedule as well as having to worry about quite a few things during the whole process on the brightest of Christian holidays too. We have prepared a few tips to make things easier on you so you’ll at least have a less-stressful moving experience:

  1. Dealing with snow

Although during this season snow can be a favorite thing we’ll love to roll around in, arrange snowball fights and so on, in a purely practical manner snow is a problem for moving. First of all make sure you clear your driveway and path to your house to make it not only clear of snow, but especially ice as well. You don’t want to movers to slip and fall hurting themselves, right? Snows will also affect the delivery time for your belongings, so you may expect delays during the winter holidays added on to the fact that most companies will have people off right on Christmas. Also wear warm clothes and gloves and drink lots of warm beverages.

Christmas Moving Tips

 2. Plan ahead of time

This is a crucial step if its possible to do it and the situation is not something that occurred suddenly without a decent window of opportunity to react to the change. Ideally you should have started preparing for the move at least two weeks to a month in advance so you’ll have a bit of time to deal with documentation and other smaller details. You should keep in mind that you’ll encounter a number of problems during a Christmas move most likely because people will be either on vacation or they’ll be overwhelmed. Make sure you call enough moving companies to get a good idea of what the price of your move will be, then choose the right one that fits your needs.

 3. The bills

This is an important step since its easy to forget it all in the chaos of the move. You will have to contact your utility providers and you should let them know you’re moving so they can transfer any services you have available with them. You will need these utilities working at the new home without a drain on your wallet from the previous one so think ahead!

 4. Inform your family and friends

Although this is probably not a very fun time to let everyone know you’re moving it will be good for them to know in case they wish to visit you on the holidays and you’re not there. You will need to do this ahead of time to avoid any confusion.

5. Celebrate and forget the stress

A lot of what you did was hectic, stressful and time-consuming. Now that the whole ordeal is over you should allow yourself some downtime and enjoyment with your family and friends so you can wind down from the stressful experiences.
