What Does She REALLY Want?
Guest post by Kate Carson
If you have a young daughter, granddaughter or niece, you’re probably already beginning to worry about what you’re going to get her for Christmas and whether or not she will like what you’ve bought. There’s no need to panic however, young girls are actually reasonably easy to buy gifts for and there are a few different options available to you for presents that most girls will be delighted with. Here are the four best safe options if you’re unsure what to get for your little girl this year.
Dolls
There are very few young girls who don’t like dolls and there are literally thousands of different ones out there so you know you’ll be able to find one that suit’s your girl’s personality. You will be able to choose from anything from fashion dolls to traditional china dolls and everything in between. Be sure you know what kind of dolls the child you’re buying for likes to play with, if she’s not particularly girly, it’s unlikely she will want a fashion doll but she may enjoy another kind of doll that will provide her with different kinds of opportunities for pretending and play.
Crafts
If you think it would be a good idea to encourage some creative flair in your little girl, then a craft-based gift may be a great idea. If she already loves drawing or making things, buying her a craft set with things to make, paint or colour in will go down a storm. Not only will your gift be fun for your child, but the right craft gift will stimulate creativity and imagination, providing a great learning experience for any young girl that isn’t quite so forced as with educational toys. If you’re going to buy a craft-related gift, make sure it’s child friendly and doesn’t require too much adult supervision.
Dress-up
You will be hard pushed to find a young girl that doesn’t enjoy playing dress-up games, so a dress-up costume is a great choice for a Christmas gift. These days, there is a huge selection of dress-up outfits available for young girls and you can find anything from pirates to princesses to match your child’s personality. It’s always better to buy a size larger than the child usually has when buying fancy dress, as young children grow quickly and you don’t want to find that she can no longer wear the outfit six weeks later.
Books
This may seem like an odd selection for a list of fun girl’s Christmas presents, but most children are often very pleased to be given a book of their own as it makes them feel grown up. Young girls make up a huge target demographic for child authors and there are literally thousands of books out there that your little girl will love. Anything from non-fiction to fairy tales will be on offer and you have to use your judgement to pick something that your child will love. Books are a useful and educational gift that your child will be delighted to receive.
