Workouts can be fun!
Guest post by Brenda L.
So your hubby spends 9-10 hours every day at work, and the moment he gets home, he’s in a hurry to rush to the gym. After the gym, it’s the television, spending time with children and million other household tasks to attend. Where is the time for you two?
It’s not that you don’t understand but when your bonding begins to be affected by the monotony of your routine; it’s time you find out ways you can spend more quality time with each other. Working out together is the best way couples can lose weight, evade falling into the rut, have some fun time together every day, and stay fit at the same time.
Given below are a few workout options that couples can explore:
1. Go Biking
This low-impact exercise regime helps to relax, get some body movement, and also spend some quality time in the process. Early morning hours are the best for this. Try to take on a route that has beautiful sceneries on the way, if possible and see their pastoral effect impact your closeness. If you want, you may do this every day or keep it reserved only for Sunday mornings.
2. Dance Your Flab Away
Okay this is a no-brainer when it comes to couple workouts. But that doesn’t rule out the appeal of dancing together to shed some extra inches. The fun quotient is definitely the higher in this, I believe. Get your partner to whirl you around. Or, join some sexy ballroom or salsa dance classes together. Let the pumping of your heart make your bond stronger as you share some carefree laughs together and workout the unsightly pounds off your body.
3. Join Aerobics
Aerobics is another option for couple workouts that makes your blood flow and causes you to use your muscles repeatedly. This is a better option for the more traditional couples. Join a group aerobics class together as you emulate the moves of a leader who makes sure that every muscle of your body is worked out well. A couple of minutes of stretching exercises are a common ritual that aerobics instructors follow before they begin with the actual exercises. You can even challenge each other to a quick tag game or a one-on-one basketball.
If you’re the dynamic couple who like to try out something new every day, you may switch between these options on a daily or weekly basis. On the other hand, if you are the couple type who enjoys the routine for a while, you can consider switching in between these activities every few months.
4. Swim On
Get into the water and just have fun. It can be anything – you can do laps in the indoor pool, or slash around in a lake or go to the beach. Leisure swim or the laps can make you forget your worries, enjoy each other’s company and stay regular at your pool workout sessions all at once.
5. Play Tennis
Fun yet low-impact way of working out a few of your muscles is what playing tennis is all about. Get another couple to play doubles with you and you have a great workout planned.
6. Don’t Forget Resistance Training
No, you need not lift heave weights and still you can build muscle strength with this workout. The idea here is to make one of the two do a sequence of exercises when the other is pushing against the movement, thereby offering resistance. Resistance training is a great workout even when both the partners are not the same in strength and size.
In case, you are an oversized couple who’re looking forward to even follow any diet program together, you may want to read more about Medifast. For best results, it is important for you to make sure that whatever exercise regime you may choose, it must take into account various fitness areas. The American Council on Exercise mentions that flexibility and strength training are equally important as your cardio exercise routine. It doesn’t matter if you’re working out to lose weight or just to maintain your current fitness levels.
If possible, it would be great for you to push each other to workout a little longer. A minimum of five 30-minute activity sessions are an absolute must, as recommended by The American College of Sports Medicine, with two sessions including at least some strength training.
Don’t forget that precision, safety, and form are very important in every exercise. In case you and your partner have different fitness level and it seems difficult to the same exercises or the same number of exercises, don’t push them too much to pass their threshold.
Instead, you can encourage them to meet you midway by letting them work out at their own pace and try to match your intensity for only short intervals. This way, you both stay motivated, safe and inspired to continue with your fitness regime together and spend some quality time in the process.
