4 Things to Do With Your Child Before They Go Back To School
Guest post by Ken
The summer has flown by fast and school is starting up for your kids. That means their schedule will be filled with school, friends and after school activities. Before you know it the school year will be over and they will be one year closer to graduating high school. Slow down! Before time slips away, here are four things to do with your child before they jump on the yellow bus:
Dream Sheet: Create a dream sheet with your child. Write out five to ten things that your child dreams of; whether they want to take a trip to Disneyworld or make all A’s on their homework. Think of goals and hopes with them, write them down and keep them within their eye sight. Create a fun poster with different markers and craft supplies! Then at the end of the school year, go over the board with them and discuss the results. It’s a great way to reflect with your child.
Date day: Your child’s schedule will become jammed packed with different activities, take a whole day to spend with your child one on one. Get in a personal day of fun and cherish these moments. Take them to the park, to lunch and/or go to the zoo. Make it special and have fun!
Write a letter: Write a letter to your child on their first day of school. This letter should be kind and full of motivation for them consider this to be your dream sheet to them. Have them read it and then store it away for the end of the year. When the last day of the school year arrives, give them the letter again. This is a great and constant reminder to your child that you support them and that you are involved in their life.
Take a picture: Some parents do this already but take it up a notch with adding something different. On the first day of school take their photo with a chalkboard of information in the photo with them. On this chalkboard (or poster board) write down their name, age/grade, what they want to be when they grow up, their hobbies and whatever else you think would be fun to look back at when they are older. You will be happy that you have these as they grow up.
Every school year, your child is one step closer to becoming a young adult and in order to relish in their childhood, try out these four fun things to help remember and enhance their experience. Enjoy your one on one time and happy new school year!
