Don’t Forget Dad!
Guest post by David Jordan
Father’s Day is the perfect day to show your appreciation for the times dad has acted as a cab driver, advice giver and an atm machine. No matter what age you are, you’ll always be his child. So why not say thanks and show how much you care this June 3rd or June 17th (depending where you live), even if its only one day of the year! Here are some ideas to help you celebrate the special day.
If you have young kids and you’re the Mom….
Dads tend to get up early and work late, so why not let dad lie in and treat him to breakfast in bed. It’s a small gesture but it will be greatly appreciated. If you’re a mum and having to organise it all, how about getting the children to pitch in and help make some pancakes to set him up for the day. If that seems like an accident waiting to happen then you could always get the arts and crafts out with the children and make a card to give to him when he wakes up. Card and gifts with a personal touch are much better than generic, shop bought stuff and it shows that you and the kids have dedicated time and effort to his special day. Fathers day isn’t just a hallmark day for dads it’s an event for the whole family and you can enjoy yourself too. Get the whole family involved including grandpa (it’s his day too). You could pack up a picnic and go out for the day in a scenic spot where you can both unwind with the whole family. Everyone will enjoy the quality time and you will have some great memories.
If you’re all grown up….
If your dad is a sports fan (which they usually are) surprise him with some tickets to see his favourite team. Going to a game is a great way to catch up and enjoy some genuine quality time cheering on the same team. Afterwards, why not invite dad around for a bbq, a few drinks and a grand firework finale? After years of grilling for you, it’s time to grill your dad some tasty food. Invite the rest of the family around to ensure he has all of the people he wants there, after all; the more the merrier!
To ensure the day is a blast add some fireworks into the mix to see you through to the night. Make the fireworks the main event by personalising the firework show to some of this favourite music. Fireworks will help enhance the mood and will keep the whole family entertained, young and old. Big bangs and bright colors are always a winner. Finish off with some big rockets. Everyone will remember a good fireworks display and it’s a brilliant way of ending a day of celebrating your how great your dad is!
Whatever you do on fathers day make sure its something he will enjoy, after all it is meant to be his day. If he’s having a good time everyone else will. If you’re unsure of what to do, just ask him! If anybody’s going to tell you how to make it a day he’ll love it’s him. It’s often the simple things that he will enjoy the most; his favourite food, his favourite hobbies, his favourite sports and above all spending time with his family.
