Who is Farmer Jason?
Farmer Jason is the brainchild of rock music legend Jason Ringenberg of Jason and the Scorchers. An Americana Music Association Lifetime Achievement Award winner, Ringenberg is one of the pioneers of the modern Americana and alt-country genres. In 2002 he created Farmer Jason to educate and entertain children about farm life and the wonders of nature. The character is based on his own farming background and love of the great outdoors. As Farmer Jason he has released 3 records and a DVD. He has starred in the “It’s a Farmer Jason” video interstitial program, which airs on several public broadcasting stations around the United States and won an Emmy Award in 2009, plus an Emmy nomination in 2010. Farmer Jason’s records have won numerous awards, including the Parents’ Choice Gold Award and the Los Angeles Times’ Children’s Record of the Year list.
About Nature Jams:
This newest Farmer Jason release on My Kazoo/Universal features guest stars performing with Farmer Jason on songs about outdoor activities and nature subjects. Some of the stars are Tom Petersson from Cheap Trick, Iris Dement, Victor Wooten, Todd Snider, Tommy Ramone, Suzy Bogguss, and Mike Mills from REM. The package includes 16 songs, a 4 song bonus dvd, and a 20 page illustrated booklet. For ages 4-10.
Review of Nature Jams by Mom Does Reviews:
I was very excited to get Nature Jams in the mail. I was even more excited to see that it came with a bonus DVD with 4 music videos. My son and I listened to Nature Jams in the car the same day. Farmer Jason has a unique music style that gets children’s attention, encourages participation and learning all at once. We laughed at all the silly songs. But, we also learned some fun facts about the world around us. I like that Farmer Jason teaches kids about nature and encourages them to get outside and enjoy it! Farmer Jason is fun and energetic. I would recommend Nature Jams for children 3 to 7. My son is 9 and he thought it was a little too “babyish” for him.
The DVD was a great bonus! The music videos are hilarious. Dison the Bison got my son and I laughing so hard we almost fell off the couch!
My favorite song and video is Can you Canoe. I keep singing that tune in my head. I love the video. All the kids in the video were wearing life vests. Safety is so important when you’re experiencing nature on any body of water.
My son’s favorite song and video was Take a Hike. He liked that one because he loves to hike and explore in the woods. It made him remember the fun hikes we take in the spring.
