Relieving Renaissance Fashion and Elegant Style

February 20, 2012 by Pam Maynard

As far as the history of the England goes, the period from 14th to 16th Century is identified as renaissance. Renaissance or rebirth has a lasting effect in the minds of the people and even today the idea is incorporated in our life. As we know, it was the time of rebirth of imagination, culture, architecture and politics. The complete revolution mesmerized the world and its effects were timeless. The renaissance revolution not only affected the art, culture, politics and mind, it has largely influenced the fashion of the time. It was the time when men and women dressed to show their class. Men had more choices in dresses than they have today. Renaissance Costumes is about beautiful designs, laces, embroidery, eyelets and antique buttons. For men it was mandatory to wear a hat as a status symbol. For common men Renaissance Clothing included wearing a flat hat made from wool, leather or felt with nicely fitted feathers.

So once you decide to relieve the past, you must understand the trends of the time and then incorporate the renaissance dresses to appear classy and stylish.

As already mentioned that the age was all about opulence try and include rich fabrics in your dresses. Use bright velvet, silk, brocades and dress like royals. In the medieval times people used to decorate the dress with expensive stones, gems and metals. Today if you do not have expensive stones, you may use bright stones, beads to bring back the royal touch of the yester years. But do not forget the velvets and brocades with your bright colored fabric.

Men in that age preferred circular look, hence their dresses were mostly given that round cut.

For men Pirate shirts are an ideal pick from the era. Pirate shirts, coats, pants, vests, kilts, tunic, doublets, cloaks, capes and jerkins can be perfectly used today to recreate the history of the medieval age. But do not forget to add the modern touch and dress the best in the upcoming renaissance festival or Halloween or theme parties.

As mentioned that the renaissance dressing depicted the rich style and culture and its presence has traveled over time and maintained its existence even today. For ladies of the era, Queen Elizabeth I has immortalized the costumes. Her dresses were mostly made up of silk and fitted with expensive stones. Her dress always had an excellent cut to make her appear sophisticated. Thus it influenced the dressing style of the women of the period immensely. Today, when you wish to bring back the heritage, weave silk with velvet and add bright stones to make it look classy. If you have lust for lace, then add those for an off shoulder touch and emerge like a Medieval Queen.

Since the age was dominated by royalty, elegance, the common men had a simple way of aping the fashion. They used wools, ship skin and metals. But today when you incorporate the heritage it is all about extravagance and grace. But while blending the history with contemporary style, do not forget to add the modern touch or it will just look like any outfit hired from some museum. So just be stylish and dress the way you want.

Surely this style of clothing came with certain limitations in those times, but currently there is an entire range of Renaissance Costumes and Renaissance Clothing that is all the rage among designers.
