Yes, Your Hubby Can Help Decorate the House!
Guest post by Chris
Once you get over the excitement of buying your new home, the overwhelming task of decorating your dream home starts. The job seems impossible and extremely difficult when you think of it at first. However, you can make the job easier for yourself if you get your husband involved with you. Most men shy away from the task of house decorating and claim it to be the women’s department. Don’t let your husband get away with it though. Tell him that it is his home as much as it is your home and you both should decorate it together. You can even divide rooms among yourself to decorate. He can decorate the den, and the living room according to his taste and you can do the bedrooms and the dining room. Or you can both work together room by room. You can make this a fun experience for both of you.
Avoiding conflict
Make your husband understand that if you decorate the whole house yourself, the chances are that he may not entirely like the end result. As both of you have different taste and sense of style, this may result in the form of conflict between the two of you. Working together, you both can create a home that you both will love. You can start of by consulting him about the color scheme of each room. This will make him realize that his choice matters to you and get him more involved in the task.
Avoid too many details
Don’t overwhelm him with too many details. Chances are that you’ll scare him away if you bombard him with minute details about your decoration plans. Start off with simple things. You can shop for your basic furniture first. You can also ask him to choose a few pieces himself while you take care of the rest of the furniture. Once you’ve selected all the furniture, you can move on to finer details.
Work as a team
It is important that you learn to work as a team. Learn to respect each other’s preferences and try to compromise now and then. This will help you to blend both of your styles together. Many couples learn to work this way and come up with a style that is uniquely their own. If you haven’t gotten around to discovering that yet, now is the right time to start. Many men also have difficulty in visualizing end results. Help your husband by showing him home-décor magazines, and samples of flooring, paint, and fabrics. This will help your husband to understand the process and learn how to match with what. Also set up a budget together and work within that range.
