Getting Crafty at Christmas
Guest post by Abigail
Christmas is that special time of year where we can enjoy being with our families and loved ones. In this day and age we are often made to feel like we should be spending extortionate amounts of money and buying endless amounts of meaningless presents for one and other.
There is nothing quite like the heart warming and personal touch of a homemade gift and often no shop bought present can compare. Not only is getting crafty at Christmas a great way to have fun spending time with your family but it is also a great way to save money.
Check out these Christmas crafts that you could be making:
Knitted Gifts
A ball of wool will cost you next to nothing at your local art or craft shop and you will be amazed at what you can create in little to no time at all. If you don’t know how to knit then fear not! There are hundreds of online tutorials and you should be able to pick it up almost instantly.
- Knitted scarf and matching hat
- Knitted handbag or purse
- Mobile phone covers
Hand-painted Boxes, coasters and picture frames
At your local art and craft store you will be sure to find a whole host of plain cardboard boxes in all shapes and sizes, coasters and picture frames. All of these things can make beautiful and considerate handmade presents. Plus they are all useful!
You don’t have to stop at painting you can buy a whole host of different color crystals, sequins, ribbons and stickers which you can use to jazz up your gift.
Go a step further and after you have fully decorated your present why not add a little something extra. If you have chosen to give a box you could fill it with sweet smelling or festive potpourri. If the picture frame was your choice then you could print out your own special picture so the frame is ready to display right away!
Jewelry
Making your own jewelry is a fun and innovative activity to get involved in. You can make necklaces, earrings, bracelets, anklets and even rings! You can buy ready to make kits or purchase the individual supplies separately. With this craft, you are only limited by your imagination.
You could try being very adventurous and make hooped or spiral earrings with the use of craft wire, add a few little glass beads on along the way and you will have yourself a lovely pair of kitsch earrings. Find a cute little box and wrap the jewelery in tissue paper for the perfect presentation.
